Renaming folder in shared mailbox not possible

$

0

We have a mailbox on an Exchange 2010 SP1 server, several users have access to this folder by giving them full mailbox access on the Exchange server. We added this in Outlook 2007 through the Advanced tab so there able to access it.

When they rename a folder in the shared mailbox it reverts back to it's old name after a while or when they close and reopen Outlook. We can prevent this from happening by disabling the option download shared folders (excluded mail folders) download shared folders (excluded mail folders) under Tools, Account settings, Change, More settings, Advanced. But with this option disabled the folders aren't available offline.

We could create a second Outlook profile for this mailbox, but this isn't convenient because the users have to switch between profiles.

Is there any other way to change the folder names without disabling this option or creating a second Outlook profile?

Outlook 2010 dragging attachments appends extra extension

$

We have a user who drags attachments from emails they've received into new messages. When they do this the attachment gets an extra extension appended to it e.g. 12345.pdf becomes 12345.pdf.pdf - this happens with any file type. If they then drag and drop the appended file to another email, it get appended again.

We're using Office 2010 SP1 on W7 SP1

Is there a solution to this?

Categories / Quick step rule via GPO

So we have Outlook 2010 and we have several public folders... we are trying to have a button that once clicked, the message is categorized and copied to a public folder (which happens to be linked to our CRM software).

Now quick step has that , when you click on the button it eventually copies it to the public folder (granted you have to do the work around of creating the quick step button, then dragging the message yourself to the public folder the first time to have the public folder show as an option in the quick step settings). I am currecntly trying to make a policy that would do this automatically (creating the quick step button which will have the public folder as a destination folder). The same message should be also categorized with the green color and named CRM...

P.S: talking abotu categories and all... any way of having the category button in the compose window toolbar?

any ideas?

Access master category list in Outlook namespace with external vbs script

$

I have a small vbscript that runs in the login script that creates an Outlook application object to insert a standard list of categories.  The category list changes occasionally so we wanted to update them each time the user logged in.  It isn't necessary to do it each time Outlook starts.  This has been working for quite a while.  I recently had one computer have a problem where one of the Outlook addins crashes when the script runs causing an abnormal dialog box and confusing the user.  I have several thoughts on how to resolve this, but I am not sure how to implement them.

1. Is it necessary to actually invoke an Outlook process to access the namespace or is there a simpler way to get to the categories?  I am currently doing a CreateObject for the application and then Getnamespace.

2. If #1 is necessary, can I open the application with addins disabled?

3. We are in a workgroup environment (no domain) and I am using the logon script in the profile so it fires when the user logs in.  It continues to run after the user is logged in since it takes some time to open Outlook then close it.  Would it be better to just put this code in Outlook startup?  It can't take that long to verify < 20 categories and then my script would not need to worry about starting outlook.

I appreciate any ideas anyone might have.

Jerry

I'm working on Outlook 2010, and I've gone to Junk Filters and turned it to "No Automatic Filtering" however messages are still being sent to Junk? Is there a way to make sure no message is sent to Junk unless I move it there manually?

Outlook 2010 Indexing - fails to complete

I recently installed Office 2010 Professional on a Windows 7 Ultimate OS (running Office 32 bit on 64 bit machine) and I find that I nearly always have search problems in Outlook 2010 - message suggests that search is incomplete.  Number of items yet to be completed varies greatly and often the number goes up rather than down e.g. form 20K items to 200K items.  All this is occurring after a point where indexing was complete i.e. no message saying that indexing incomplete and all items searched for returned without a problem.  In an effort to complete indexing left machine on for 4 days - yet still incomplete - seems that indexing was complete at one stage but looks like it starts again. Is there a bug in indexing for Outlook 2010 on Windows 7 and, if so is there a fix please?

I need to know how to disable stationary in Outlook 2010 in a GPO.  If I have to create my own .adm file does anyone have the entries that I need?  I've seen everything under the sun on 2007 and 2003.  Doesn't apply.

unable to send html email with word 2010

I too am having this issue, however we have a 3rd party email program Groupwise that works along with Outlook. I can get publisher to send my html email but not word. When I try to send it with Word it just stops and does nothing, no error and no email. After some research I found some comments about it being an issue with Outlook. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been working off and on with this for 3 months.

Cannnot recall message Outlook 2010 when sent as a mail enabled group

We have created some mail enabled groups and the users that are able to send as this Group are unable to recall any sent messages. The "Recall this message" is greyed out. The messages are internal to our network.

They can recall messages if they are sent as themselves without a problem. They both insist that they were able to recall messages sent as the group previously.

Does anyone know where I can begin to look to correct this issue. Is it an Exchange issue or an Outlook issue.

We are using Windows XP Pro, Office 2010, Exchange 2003

Outlook crashes when attaching a file during the preview

$

I originally was going to ask this as an outlook crashes while attaching a file, but I have more information and its more specific than just that.

Outlook 2007 connecting to a exchange 2010 server. We are getting more and more of these problems over the last two weeks. It seemed to start around september 24th. The problem as it came to us was that outlook was crashing intermittently when trying to attach a file. Some people it would crash all the time while others only crashed every so often.

We had the users uninstall office and reinstall it. Remove all add ins and also run in safe mode but nothing seemed to be consistant with the failure. We ran the various virus scans and they found nothing. We turned off the antivirus software (Trend Officescan) and the problem continued. Once we got a system in we were better able to pinpoint the issue.

The attachment is only failing with docx or xlsx files. It works find with doc, xls, pdf, and pptx files. But if you do a copy and paste, or if you quickly double click on the file during the insert it can be attached easily. The issue it seems is when you use the attachment option and then hover the mouse over the docx and xlsx files that outlook crashes. These seems to coincide with the preview or tooltips windows that pops up. For doc and xls files the tooltips window comes up just fine and the file can be attached. But with docx and xlsx, this seems to be an issue.

To further checkout the issue we tested it against word. Word displayed the same issues when opening a file. If you hover over the docx and xlsx files with the mouse then word will crash. The doc and xls files seem to be just fine.

Testing with excel didn't have an issue with the docx or xlsx files. However I must note that excel did not give a tooltip window for those files either. Not sure how that was turned off.

Using explorer to look at the files didn't give any issues either.

Not sure why this just suddenly started. On the system that was being tested the last updates were installed on Sept 11 so there is too much time between that date and the failures on sept 24th.

So any suggestions out there, or maybe those with issues might be able to verify our results.

outlook 2010 hangs trying to connect to exchange server when the address book is clicked on

$

We have noticed fairly recently (about 1-2 weeks ago) that outlook 2010 will hang when a user clicks on the address book or the "to".  The message will say "trying to connect to exchange server".  We've even had this happen on a freshly installed copy of windows and outlook.  This happens with several mailboxes as well.  We've tried new mapi profiles, repairing office, and a fresh reinstall of office.  We've tried cached and online mode.  We've tried safe mode as well.  Sometimes when this happens the first time, if the user ends outlook through task manager then reopens it, then the address book will work fine.  There is no consistency in the issue sometimes it will work for a day or two, but we have yet to find a permanent solution.  Any assistance out there will be greatly appreciated.

Hi...

I'm Dama Davis. We do have licensed version of Office being used in our office. We are facing issue with outlook, when sending meeting request from Outlook client to Hotmail/Ymail clients, the request is shown as text. But the same works fine when sent to outlook client and Gmail(web).  I have gone through all the resolution provided in the MSFT sites; however, nothing fixed my issue.

From MS Outlook (Client) to:

MS Outlook (Client) and Gmail (web) it works fine.

But with Hotmail, Yamil, Rediff its showing only text.

From Gmail(Web) to:

MS Outlook, Gmail, Hotmail it works fine.

I'm facing this issue with both 2007 & 2010 versions of MS Office.

1. We are using Google Apps.

2. Only single mail account is configured in outlook.

3. (a) From Outlook Client (Google Apps) to:

MS Outlook Client (Google Apps) - It works fine

Gmail (Web) - It works fine

Hotmail/Ymail/Rediff - It's showing pain text as below

Outlook 2010 with Exchange 2003 slow when accessing big added mailboxes

$

Hi,
I try for the last time here since I have tried everywhere for months without success.. We have an updated Exchange 2003 environment with Outlook 2003/2007/2010 clients. No problems with OLK 2003/2007.
With Outlook 2010 (on Win7 64bit clients) when I try to open added big mailbox folders (exchange mailboxes added via Advanced settings under Mailbox settings of about 2GB ost files or more) it stays there thinking and thinking hanging outlook until it shows the desired folder of the attached mailbox. Switching back to the pc owner mailbox and back again to the added mailbox same thing.

I've tried   e v e r y t h i n g. Cached mode on or off, Mapi folder and message limits reg keys... (why that limit is reached by OLK 2010 and not by 2007 or 2003 it's another mystery...)

Is there someone that knows why?? It's enough to find where to investigate.

Thank you very much.
Francesco

Shared Contact Views not displaying in Outlook 2010

I currently use Outlook 2007 and within our organisation we have a shared contacts address book, I have set up different views according to the type of contact or job role, which are listed in the navigation pane.  These views are set up to be viewed by everyone and works well with the exception of our new secretary who has Outlook 2010, the new navigation pane does not have any of the shared views displayed and we are unable to see what to do to enable these pre-set views on her computer. Any advice?

Windows Installer issues

$

Hey everyone. I really need help. I have a windows 7 and I had Microsoft Office 2007 on it. I wanted to uninstall Office and move to a free alternative and I decided to delete the Office files manually. What happened was that some of the files got deleted while the others didn't. I then realised that doing it manually would be really difficult so I went in my control panel and tried deleting it from there. Although the windows installer started, it couldn't complete the action and just showed an error saying that some files are located on a removable disc so I should insert a CD with Office and Frontpage to remove the software. Even when I pressed OK or Cancel, it would go away for a while but come again 10 seconds later. Its still doing it and its gotten quite annoying now. Then I thought that maybe if I delete Office, the problems would be solved so I learnt the deletion of Office manually and did it. Now I don't have any files of Office on my laptop anymore but the installer still runs every 10 seconds and I need to cancel it every time. Its gotten really annoying. PLEASE HELP ME! I'd really appreciate ANY help! :( :(

Has anyone seen this before, should we be worried or need to do anything?
