Outlook 2010 shared calendars painfully slow, need to be accessed from outside the LAN

Hello,

I'm actually trying to troubleshoot an Outlook issue. To make it short:

User needs to explore and modify plannings of a 20 technician team. He uses Calendar in Outlook to do so.

Each calendar is, in consequence, full of half-day blocks, each working day, til 5years. The user must have access to older items, even one year ago.

this element count can reach 2000/3000 elements per calendar. I've tried with test calendars + archiving, but it remains slow (archive: items older than 6months)

Actually, Outlook is set in full cached mode. It can takes up to 10 seconds for the user to move appointment blocks within a calendar, or from one calendar to another, which causes him to lost a lot of time creating plannings of the team.

I've tried online mode, and this delay drops to 1-2seconds while on LAN, so its now acceptable, but it goes up to 1minute while outside the LAN.

This user works a lot from the outside, so it would be necessary to find a solution or a workaround to this issue.

I was thinking about:

-Set the user in online shared folders mode while inside the LAN  (The mailbox itself must always be cached)

-Set him in cached shared folders while outside, with filters available

It would be necessary to set that with on the fly scripts he could launch himself, one for the outside, one for the inside access, for easiest use.

I wonder if its possible, and of course if there is an easier way.

Do you have any advice?

Regards!
