We are having an issue with some of our computers when clicking on a Mailto:email@address.com hyperlink on the Internet. This happens no matter which browser we are using (IE, Firefox, Chrome).
When we click on the hyperlink, we get the error: "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. A program error occurred. Quit Outlook and Microsoft Windows and then start again. You don't have appropriate permission to perform this operation."
This is happening on approximately 25% of the PCs on our domain. All of the PCs are running the same version of Outlook 2007 deployed via GPO in Active Directory on Windows 7 PCs. Outlook performs completely normally aside from when we try to click on a Mailto: hyperlink.
Steps we have tried:
Restarting Outlook
Restarting Windows
Making sure the Windows Search service is running (seen in another forum as the solution)
Start, Run, Outlook.exe /resetnavpane
Start, Run, Outlook.exe /safe
Running a Repair installation through the Control Panel, Programs and Features
Fully removing/reinstalling Office 2007
We have had limited success rebuilding the users' Windows profiles, but this has become time consuming and we are trying to explore other options. Any other ideas/suggestions we could try?
Thanks!
