Hello, all! I hope someone can kindly help me with this strange and irritating issue with the newly-installed Outlook 2013 on my work Windows 7 Pro machine.
First a background: Outlook (whatever version) connects to the institution's Exchange 2010 server via a Unicode mode. I have been using Outlook 2007 so far on this machine without a problem. The problem started when we upgraded to Office 2013.
The installation went fine; all other Office 2013 programs are working fine, but I have this problem with Outlook 2013. When I click on the Icon, I get this dreaded message:
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The attempt to log on to Microsoft Exchange has failed."
The peculiarity of this problem is that I have tried repairing Outlook 2013 (includingcreating a new profile), and after the repair, it continues to work fine (that is, Open and Connect to the Exchange Server) until the computer is shut down for the day. The next day, the problem comes back.
This Outlook 2013 is not running on a Cached Exchange mode, so that there is no local .ost file, only an online .ost. The "folders" in the error message are probably the .pst files that are locally placed in the computer (ones that Outlook 2013 recognizes as personal folders when it opens).
The Run >> outlook.exe /resetnavpane command doesn't work, because Outlook 2013 refuses to open and shows the same error message. Also, Outlook 2013 is not running in any Compatibility Mode.
I'd be very grateful if someone could help me resolve this issue, because it is affecting my work.
