Outlook 2010 - Preview is not working for Office attachments

Hi there,

I have Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 installed on a Terminal Server.  The version of Outlook is showing 14.0.6112.5000 (32-bit).  All users on this TS are experiencing an error when trying to preview Word, Excel and PowerPoint attachments within Outlook.  When they try, it appears that Outlook briefly tries to install something and then the Preview Pane displays "This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it."

At the same time, three DistributedCOM errors show up in the server's System log, all Event ID 10016 and always in the same order.  The second and third events are always identical:

  1. The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
    {A0A8C0AC-FC70-4EE2-93A8-4A2257AE8619}
     and APPID
    {38AFE312-B8E5-4354-A11F-9224307B28AC}
     to the user DOMAIN\username SID (S-1-5-21-3984364714-3161408936-200229413-1104) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

  2. The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
    {000C101C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
     and APPID
    {000C101C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
     to the user DOMAIN\username SID (S-1-5-21-3984364714-3161408936-200229413-1104) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

  3. The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
    {000C101C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
     and APPID
    {000C101C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
     to the user DOMAIN\username SID (S-1-5-21-3984364714-3161408936-200229413-1104) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

I have checked DCOM Config, and as a test granted 'Everyone' both Local Launch and Local Activation permissions for the entries that correspond to APPID {38AFE312-B8E5-4354-A11F-9224307B28AC} (which is listed as SessionEnv) and {000C101C-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} (which is listed as an identical GUID).  This has not helped.

I have also tried a full  uninstall and reinstall of Office 2010, but that did not make a difference either.  Additionally, this is only a problem for Office type attachments... PDFs, JPEGs/TIFs/PNGs, and TXT attachments all preview just fine.

FYI I have also posted this question on the MS Partner Forums, if anything becomes of it there I'll update this thread.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

Greg
