We are experiencing an issue that if a user has a window overlaid on Outlook 2010 for around 20-30 minutes the mail item windows has drawing issues where messages stack and items look as if they are duplicated. When you click on an item it will re-draw and then show the actual item it represents. Usually minimizing/un-minimizing Outlook fixes the issue.
The problem is that the people experiencing the issue are stock traders who have hundreds of small windows open across 3x30in monitors with graphs, charts, tickers etc. for various symbols they need to keep track of. In these situations Outlook is normally covered by various windows with only the folder tree and email items pane showing. The traders don’t want to worry about having to constantly minimize/un-minimize the Outlook window every 30 minutes or so when they should be watching tickers and making trades. Some steps we have taken to resolve the issue:
- Issue happens on various dual monitor setups (2 x 19inch up to 3 x 30 inch)
- Outlook patched to the latest level as of (04/05/2013)
- Exchange backend patch to SP2 RU6
- Recreated mail Profile
- Recreated inbox folder
- Observed in cached and non-cached mode
- Tested Outlook with /safe switch
- Run Outlook with /cleanviews
- Run Outlook with /safe:1
- Run Outlook with /safe:3
- Adjusted appearance and performance options to Adjust for best performance setting and confirmed processor scheduling was configured for best performance of Programs.
- Mail - Editor - Advanced - Checked to disable hardware graphics acceleration checked Optimize character positioning for layout rather than readability
- Updated video drivers on Matrox M9140 video card in affected boxes
- Uninstalled Matrox M9140 and replaced with ATI Radeon HD 7570
- Rolled back video drivers to WDDM 1.0 version
- Updated motherboard BIOS
Attached is a screenshot of the issue that we re-created on an unused trader box. You can see that the inbox is shown twice in the mail item pane with a different number of messages. Also the 1st read email item has had of another email overlaid on it. If we clicked on the 1st read email item listed it would reveal the actual mail item underneath it. Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any suggestions as to what we can do to minimize the issue.
