I have a high profile admin who manages meetings for the senior staff. When she does a cancellation on a meeting from a series there are multiple cancellation notices sent to each attendee. The cancellations send in batches. At last count my manager (attendee) had 43 cancellation notices.
Known facts:
Exchange 2003 (planned coexist/migration to Exchange 2010 in the next month as mailstore is maxxed out)
Outlook 2010
The meeting is a recurring weekly meeting with an end date of April 1, 2014
Meeting organizer is also an attendee
Meeting organizer is a heavy calendar user
Attendees are added from a distribution list (Sr. Management)
All attendees are iPhone users (at least the vast majority)
This seems to be the only user in the organization that spamms changes to meetings to attendees
This issue was first noticed when the user had Outlook 2007. We performed a delete and reinstall to Office 2010 and the problem quieted down for a few months and has now returned.
Let me know how I can be more explicit to help. I've been crawling the web and seeing old activesync issues with some of the iOS versions but nothing I've seen hits this scale.
I inherited this and have a very nice new server shipping to get this org updated. Due to the high profile of the issue it need addressed immediately.
