changing subject of recurring meeting in one instance changes all instances for recipeints

I have a user who manages two managers calendars.  On one of the calendars, there is a recurring appointment that was started in January, and goes though the end of the year.  They've decided to change this meeting to quarterly, instead of monthly. Just as a test - the Admin Assistant went in and change the Subject Line on the person who created the meeting to say quarterly.  She did NOT change anything else.  She changed it on the SINGLE occurrence, NOT the entire series.  In theory, this should have changed the SUBJECT only for all recipients to say Quarterly, for that ONE occurrence.  It did change it for the person who created the meeting.  So this person now has 12 recurring meetings.  11 of them say Monthly as a subject, 1 of them says Quarterly (none of the dates have changed).  On the other person who was a member of this meeting (the recipient) all 12 of his meetings say Quarterly, none of them say Monthly (whereas they did before).  Obviously, the correct way to do this is to End the recurrence, and create a new quarterly meeting after the end date.  But I need to know that in the future, if someone wants to change the subject line for a single occurrence in recurring meeting, that it's done the proper way.
