I have run into an issue lately with some users on our 2008 r2 terminal server, when a user tries to open an attachment in Outlook 2003, they get an error - Can't create file: <var>Filename</var>. Right click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click Properties in the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder.
In my research on this issue I see two trains of thought on this, 1. a folder permissions issue, or 2. need to clear the OutlookSecureTempFolder.
In either case, I am confused as to why one day a user can open the attachments (a picture sent from a smart phone, ie image.jpg), and then apparently something changes and then they cannot? What has changed?
I am thinking it must be user profile specific, because only some users have this issue. And the user has been opening jpg attachments for over a year and then they cannot.
I have tried to drill down in the registry on this server to find, both Hkey-LocalMachine,, and HKEY_CurrentUser,, and can never find the keys that some forum threads have had me try to find. or cannot find folders in the path that they say to look for to find temporary outlook file folder or OutlookSecureTempFolder.
Not sure what is causing this issue or how to fix?
thanx
