file saveas to SharePoint - Outlook message - file already exists. Do you want to replace the existing file.

Development server - Outlook 2007/Moss 2007 Enterprise/Windows 2003.  Using Exchange 2010 SP2.

I am developing a solution where

  • I save an email as a .msg file from Outlook 2007 client using file/save as menu to a Sharepoint 2007 library configured as a Network Place
  • SharePoint list ItemUpdated event handler appends a version number to the file name
  • I save a different email with same file name and get "file already exists.  Do you want to replace the existing file." message, even though the previous message in the target library was renamed.
  • deleting the target library file does not help - still get message

This is where it gets strange(r).  The save process works as I intended (saving/naming a series of versions) if I either

  • recycle OutLook between saves, or
  • wait approx 30 minutes between saves

Deleting the target file not helping, the message originating in Outlook, and recyling Outlook working lead me to believe the issue is with Outlook rather than SharePoint.

The Exchange/network admins do not know of any special caching solution in place that might cause this.

Forcing Send/Receive all does not help.

No Event log entries.

Anyone have any idea if Outlook is somehow caching the file save or if there is an intermediate temp file that does not clear immediately?

Thanks

Fred
