Can't send out email after adding phone service to my cable Internet services

I haven't had a single problem with Office 2010 which includes Outlook 2010 since I upgrade the program 6 months ago.  I have used my cable companys Internet service with little to no service interruption during the same 6 months.

However, yesterday I had phone services added to my Cable/Internet services and now I can't send email.  I called my cable company and the only thing they would tell me (a well rehearsed canned response) "Sir, all we can do is verify that the POP/SMTP settings are correct.  IF you still have the problem, you need to contact Microsoft".

Their reply makes me feel they are fully aware of this problem, but have no knowledge as in how to fix the problem.  Does anybody have experiece with this situation?  Work around?

I am in S.W. Missouri, in a small community called Nixa, which is on the south side of Springfield, Mo.  There are seperate utility providers for the two towns.  Cable provider is Suddenlink based out of Texas.
