(Initially posted in Compatibility forum, but this forum was subsequently recommended.)

My employer has finally upgraded me from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

Initial issue:  the default Outlook 2016 notification pop-up that appears in the lower right corner when new mail is received no longer displays the instant one-click Delete, etc. options that were provided on the Outlook 2010 new mail notification pop-up

Partial solution:  the Windows 10 “Troubleshoot compatibility” option restored the Outlook 2010 style new mail notification pop-up

Problem:  afterwards, Search within Outlook displayed the following errors:

“Instant Search is not available when Outlook is runningwith Administrator permissions.”

“Search performance will be impacted because the WindowsSearch service is turned off in elevated mode.”

FWIW, Services shows that Windows Search is turned on, and I am NOT manually running Outlook with Administrator permissions, however it seems that “Troubleshoot compatibility” set that Run As Admin permissions somewhere not visible (Outlook Properties > Shortcut > Advanced Properties > Run as administrator is unchecked), because Task Manager shows Elevated=Yes for OUTLOOK.EXE

Now I seem to have suppressed the “Search performance will be impacted because the Windows Search service is turned off in elevated mode” error by enabling "Allow service to interact with desktop" for the Windows Search service.

However, Outlook is still displaying “Instant Search is not available when Outlook is running with Administrator permissions”, and more importantly still providing wildly incorrect search results.

Is there any way to resolve this seeming mutual-exclusion between Outlook Search and Admin / elevated / the Outlook 2010 style new mail notification pop-up ?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions.

I get this error on all 3 Terminal servers when opening outlook 2013 on random users at random times:

The fix is to click ok and then re-open outlook 3-4 times. Then this error goes away and outlook starts normally.

I cannot reproduse this problem. It mostly happends first time a user logs on in the morning. The PST file is locally on the Terminal Server but the archive files are on a file share that is mapped.

What has been tested:

1.I have reinstalled office on all Terminal Servers

2. outlook.exe /resetnavpane

I welcome every answer and will test whatever is needed.

Not able to send as on a mailbox for Outlook 2016

Hello,

Having issues where a user is unable to "send as" from a mailbox I created on Exchange. Even though I created this mailbox and then went to delegate control and gave them Send As, Send on Behalf and Full Control they are getting a bounce back with this error:  This message could not be sent. Try sending the message again later, or contact your network administrator. You do not have the permission to send the message on behalf of the specified user. Error is [0x80070005-0x0004dc-0x000524]

I also made sure in powershell that it showed their attributes to this mailbox as Send AS. Can anyone help?

Can somebody confirm if this feature works on a user mailbox? I'm fully aware of the Set-calendarprocessing cmdlet which is available for resource mailbox, is the option related to this? If yes then does this mean its only available to resource mailbox as well?

IMAP Inbox wont Synchronize automatically

I am working in Outlook 2016 home and business. About a week ago the IMAP inbox started having synch problems. Hours would pass before any new emails would come in. I would check my webmail and could see new messages in the box. In outlook when I click send/receive I see the send receive status near the bottom and it completes without errors. I found that I can click on another folder like sent, or junk and then go back to the inbox and the synchronize animation will show up near the bottom right and then email will finally come in.        Here is everything I have tried so far:    uninstalled antivirus,  ran repair on office 2016,  ran scanpst on my ost file -- not sure if scanpst is intended for an ost file but it seemed to complete ok and said it fixed some errors,   uninstalled and reinstalled office, created a new profile -- still had the same problem-- archived old email till inbox only had 5500 emails.  After all that I was still having the synch issue.  Yesterday I used the microsoft fixit office removal tool and reinstalled office again. It then started to bring in mail by itself. All day everything was fine but the next morning emails stopped coming in around 4:30am and couldn't get the inbox to synch again -- even after another folder was clicked.

I noticed it takes a long time for outlook to close as well - for at least a minute maybe more outlook.exe still shows in task manager.

Any ideas?

Outlook 2016 Account Settings no longer shows me POP advanced settings

$

After build 1807 was installed I no longer have access to POP advanced settings. If I open accounts, select an address and select Change, I see a much simpler screen that does not have the server fields or More Settings fields.

Prior to Build 1807:

After Build 1807:

Clicking Next just finishes the dialog, is nothing there either (unless I am overlooking something!)

I did some experimenting with VMs and pinned down that it was Build 1807 that did this. Questions:

1) If I have to change mail providers how do I alter the mail server info ? Is there any way to gain access to those fields again in Build 1807 ?

2) If not, how do I uninstall Build 1807 ? Poked around in Programs and Features, updates and did not see Office anywhere

Thanks!

Fixing invalid content for Internet Calendar Subscriptions reported error (0x00042000)

$

Hello,

I've run into an issue adding a specific user's ICS calendar into my Outlook 2013.  The user's ICS link was created through their Office 365 account.  Adding the user's ICS calendar link I get 3 errors stating there is invalid content near line "xxx" and that the line was skipped.  An example of the error is pasted below, but without the actual line number.

Task 'Internet Calendar Subscriptions' reported error (0x00042000) : 'Invalid content near line xxx. Line skipped.'

I also receive another error, which is pasted below, but without the actual line number.

Task 'Internet Calendar Subscriptions' reported error (0x0004003F) : 'The VEVENT, "Tentative", defined near line xxx, lacks both a DTSTART and a DTEND. Outlook is assuming that the appointment starts today. Double-click to open this item.'

I've already attempted the following troubleshooting steps, but none resolved the issue

1) Removed the ICS calendar and re-added it

2) ran outlook /cleansharing and also re-added the ICS calendar

3) Had the user who created the ICS link by sharing his calendar remove the share and re-share the calendar to create a new ICS link

Also,  ICS links shared from other users within the same orginzation do not have an issue when I add them to my Outlook.  Only this one user.

What I'd like to know is how can I find which calendar events or content is associated with each error and the referenced line number so I can address the invalid content from the users end who provided the ICS link?  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Robert

Outlook 2019 OST File Size Limit

$

I have a client that we migrated to a new notebook and installed Office Home and Business 2019.  He uses a Hosted Exchange product (NOT Office 365) and has a mailbox in excess of 80GB.  We are not able to synchronize his email to the new device.  We are getting an OST file size error.

Is there a way to increase the OST / PST file size in Outlook 2019?  The directions from KB832925 do not correlate with Outlook 2019.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Message pop up for meeting request creation

$

Hi All,

Is it possible to enable a popup message of some sort when a user is preparing to create a meeting invite?

Something similar to a Mail Tip for a user mailbox where once the account is entered in the 'To' field, the Mail Tip displays a message above the 'To' address bar.

I have configured a mail tip for the meeting room, however, the message only applies on the meeting request approval email and not prior to the request being sent.

The reason behind this is that we want to inform requester of the usage of particular meeting rooms prior to requesting the room.

Thanks for your time

Angelo

Exchange User - Issue with Notifications and/or New Mail Syncing in Outlook Client

$

I have a curious issue going on with one Exchange user using Outlook 2016 client on Windows 10. We use exchange server 2010, her Outlook client is 2016.

If her Outlook client is in cached mode, which it is set at default to be, this user does not automatically get new mail items in her client's inbox. She has to continually click Send/Receive or Update Folder for new items to show up that have already been sent to her.

This issue DOES NOT occur when she is in Outlook OWA, or if if I put the client in Online Mode. New mail items pop up in the OWA automatically and in the client inbox automatically if it is in Online Mode.

However, if I put the client in Online Mode, this user no longer receives new mail notifications (neither the Windows 10 notification pop-ups or the yellow mail symbol that appears on the taskbar icon.

What leads me to believe this is some sort of weird back end issue is this is not the first time I have had this issue with this specific user, and only this specific user. August of last year she had the same issue, and after many attempts at various fixes, Office365 support, etc, I eventually just re-imaged her computer and that seemed to randomly fix it. On Monday, I just swapped out that re-imaged system for a brand new computer and this issue has seemingly popped back up. So this issue has occurred seemingly at random, across two different systems and on two different OS (previous was Windows 7).

I've gone through all the Outlook and Windows 10 notifications settings and various random fixes. Does anyone have any suggestions of things to look into to fix the incoming mail in cached mode issue or no notifications in client Online Mode issue? (or ideally both hah!)

Thanks!
