Outlook 2016 syncing but not displaying Gmail\Sent Mail (imap account)

Never seen this one before...

Outlook 2016 is newly set up (on a new laptop) with an imap connection to an existing Gmail account. The inbox, inbox subfolders, drafts and trash all sync with no issues - send and receive work fine. However, Outlook shows no sent messages in the [Gmail]\Sent Mail folder. 

Of course, I've confirmed that the "Do not save copies of sent items" box in More settings...Internet email settings is unchecked.

What weird is that sent items are in the .ost file -- they can be found via search. See screenshot below where I isolated one recently sent message. (** The forum is blocking me from inserting an image**) The search results don't give me actionable info to trace where the messages are actually stored. It shows them located in the "Sent Mail" folder, but [Gmail]\Sent Mail shows no messages, and searching within that subfolder yields no results. But when I search from the parent [Gmail] folder, sent items appear when my search includes subfolders. 

I'm not sure if it's relevant that 1) there are two copies of the one sent item I searched for, or 2) the imap status is listed as  "unmarked".

Finally, as a side question, I'm not sure why the imap Gmail mailbox bothers to create a [Gmail] subfolder to contain drafts, trash, sent items and spam.  

Would really appreciate the community's help on this!




Cannot delete Contact folders, or properly import contacts from CSV

I've spent an hour searching the internet for answers. Here's my problem. I've imported contacts from a CSV file to a newly installed Outlook. None of the contacts show when composing an email. I thought I did something wrong, so I imported again. Same thing. However, when I click on Address Book, in the Address Book pop-down I see 3 "address books": myid@mydom.org, Contacts, Contacts. When I select "Search Name Only" I see all of the contacts I've imported. Yet, they do not show up when I compose an email.

So, I thought I'd start over again. I've highlighted and deleted the contacts from the "Contacts" book and now both "Contacts" books are empty. Next I'd like to delete these folders before trying again for fear of creating a third Contacts book. How do I do that? One post suggests:

    • Open the Folder List in Outlook.
    • Right-click the contact folder you want to remove

My folder list is opened. There are no contact folders listed that I can see.

A further piece of information. I previously added a new Default data file before trying the CSV import. Not sure if that matters.

Mission #1: I want to delete both of these Extraneous "Contacts" folders before starting afresh. How do I do that?

Unable to Select Multiple Email Attachments

Hello,

I just upgraded to Microsoft Outlook for Office 365 MSO 16.0.11328.20418 32-bit.  I am unable to select multiple email attachments using the mouse's shift-click or ctrl-click.  When I try to select a subsequent attachment, the first one becomes unselected.  I am using Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1.  Please fix the issue.

SyncWindowSetting following an Exchange Online migration

Hello,

following an Exchange Online migration we configured a GPO to limit Outlook cached mode to 3 months"Cached Exchange Mode Sync Settings"; at this point, we would like to lift the restriction without having remote sites exhausting their bandwidth.

I assumed Outlook was going to use the SyncWindowSetting (with a one time GPP) under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Cached Mode" and leave users free to use the slider again, but apparently the setting is stored somewhere else. As soon as we remove the GPO the slider goes up to "all" (if configured before the migration) or "12 months" as described in the GPO setting: "If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, Outlook synchronizes the last 12 months of email messages to users' computers".

We have a case open but it's taking a long time; any hints/ideas?

IMAP email problem

Hi 

Apologies upfront I am not a technical minded person so this may sound very vague but I will describe my problem the best way I can.

I am using an IMAP account on Outlook 2016 Windows 10 & it keeps downloading the same email message again & again, the email first came through on Saturday. it was fine Sunday & yesterday, but today its just re-downloading it again & again and after deleting all the extra ones its now flashing the extra one on & off all the time its really annoying how do I stop this happening its not the first time I have had this problem last time I took office off & reloaded it back on but I don't want to keep doing that every time this happens as I have several IMAP accounts for my business that I have to monitor & I don't want to have to keep reloading them all back on plus it's happened in one of the other accounts before too that went on for days that time before it finally stopped doing it.



To-Do Bar only shows first calendar

Our users have Outlook 2019 for Windows and have their work mailbox as their primary mailbox and either a shared team mailbox or a home mailbox as their second.  They view the calendars of both mailboxes at the same time in calendar view.  The To-Do Bar only shows the first calendar and so we are always missing meetings.  Suggestions?

1.      Our customer has a  problem of English version Outlook 2010 PST file corrupted,  file size is in 6G. Do Microsoft has any official tools which can repair such big size of PST ?

2.   If it has, can it also support OST repair?  If not, any other suggestion on it ?

Outlook rules miss certain spams

I'm having a lot of trouble from a particular spammer. Whatever I put in the Outlook rules will not catch these spams. It seems to be due to weird codes in the header "from" address. For example:

From: =?utf-8?Q?Sloane=20&=20Sons?= <sales@gardenbenches.com>

The address ("sales@gardenbenches.com") changes (as does subject field) so can't use that, but "Sloane & Sons" is common to these spams. But filtering on "Sloane" will NOT work. Perhaps it has something to do with those codes ("=?utf-8?Q?")?

Fixing invalid content for Internet Calendar Subscriptions reported error (0x00042000)

Hello,

I've run into an issue adding a specific user's ICS calendar into my Outlook 2013.  The user's ICS link was created through their Office 365 account.  Adding the user's ICS calendar link I get 3 errors stating there is invalid content near line "xxx" and that the line was skipped.  An example of the error is pasted below, but without the actual line number.

Task 'Internet Calendar Subscriptions' reported error (0x00042000) : 'Invalid content near line xxx. Line skipped.'

I also receive another error, which is pasted below, but without the actual line number.

Task 'Internet Calendar Subscriptions' reported error (0x0004003F) : 'The VEVENT, "Tentative", defined near line xxx, lacks both a DTSTART and a DTEND. Outlook is assuming that the appointment starts today. Double-click to open this item.'

I've already attempted the following troubleshooting steps, but none resolved the issue

1) Removed the ICS calendar and re-added it

2) ran outlook /cleansharing and also re-added the ICS calendar

3) Had the user who created the ICS link by sharing his calendar remove the share and re-share the calendar to create a new ICS link

Also,  ICS links shared from other users within the same orginzation do not have an issue when I add them to my Outlook.  Only this one user.

What I'd like to know is how can I find which calendar events or content is associated with each error and the referenced line number so I can address the invalid content from the users end who provided the ICS link?  Please let me know if you have any questions.

combining .pst and .ost files in a single inbox

I have two existing POP accounts that drop email into a single outlook.pst file.

One of those accounts will be deactivated so I decided using outlook.com for the replacement would be a good choice, not realizing outlook.com stored email in a outlook.com.ost location. Now I'm stuck with email going into two different in boxes. How do I combine the two in outlook so that all email goes into a single inbox?

Make only certain outlook events public

I know that I can set my default calendar setting to public and then mark my events as private as necessary.

However, is the reverse possible?  

By default, I would like my events to be private.  But occasionally, I would like to make an event or two public.

Is that possible?

Custom contact form

Hello, 

So I am an intern at PROMAN and my job is to help them implement office 365 because they are still using IBM Lotus Note and I think it could be massive step forwards using Outlook, Teams, Yammer, ...

The only thing that is holding them back is the database advantage of IBM Note. So they have a database with 10000 of CV's from people all across the world and they can search according to what language is on the CV, previous experience, age, even on in an attachment ... Only problem is that I cannot find what type of data is stored in IBM Note... So I cannot export it as a CSV file and import these into outlook. 

So I have been searching in Office contacts to create a custom form so you can enter data from the CV instead of regular contact info so they could have to same in Outlook. I have succeeded in this but when you go to the search option and search for example 'English level 5' it doesn't show any results. But I did add the data to the contact that is stored in outlook. 

Is there a special way you have to edit the contact form so it stores the data as a text or something else so I can search on those specific data entries? 

Is there someone who has done the same thing or has experience with custom contact forms in outlook?

Outlook 2019 asking for password, but i cannot access to change password

Following a very recent windows update, my outlook cannot access my Microsoft email accounts via exchange and keeps saying password needed. I click on the request but a screen flashes up then disappears. I have tried changing the password via the internet then going back to outlook to see if i can change it. None of the options allow me to add or change the password. I have tried removing one of the accounts and reinstating it, but it just keeps saying there's a problem setting it up and doesn't allow me to go any further.

Any help would be appreciated

Can't expand folder for shared mailbox

Hi,

We had a little problem with shared mailboxes last week where some users lost theirs.

Now there is someone who can't access their shared mailbox no matter what. They got their full access added back during last week, but it never showed up.

Today we tried to manually add it to the users Outlook and received the following message whenever we tried to expand the mailbox.

"Can't display the folder. Can't open the folders. Can't reach the file C:\users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\mailaddress.ost because it is being used by another process. Close the program that's using the file and try again. You may need to restart your computer".

We have tried clearing the folder above, making a new outlook profile and re-installing Office but none of these have worked.

I should mention that user can access the mailbox just fine through OWA.

Do you have any ideas how we can resolve this?

why doesn't my Blocked Senders list work?

Please see above - this mail arrived in my Inbox - as you can see the sender address is in my Blocked Senders list.

This is just one example - the Blocked Senders list does not work for any of the addresses in it - they all hit my inbox and not my Junk Folder.

Am I missing something?

Internet calendar .isc and scheduling assistant

I have my work email and calendar and I am subscribing to my fianceés schools online calendar. 

How can I get this internet calendar to show me as busy in my work scheduling assistant? 

For anyone wondering, I would be busy during her school hours to take care of our child.
