We're having trouble with retrieving new email items after migration to Exchange 2016

Hi

We are busy with a migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2016 at the moment and the client has a number of Mac users who are using Office for Mac.  When the users are on Exchange 2010 everything works fine, however when the Mac user is migrated to Exchange 2016 the following error is received.

The error is not necessarily received immediately. The user will work fine for a few days or so and then this pops up.

Has anyone seen this before?

How to make "Flag" column not show a grey flag when no flag set - this makes the red flags not stand out. - Outlook 2013 - single-line layout

$

In Outlook 2013, the "Flag" column displays unflagged emails differently in the Single-Line layout & the Compact layout.

  • In the Compact layout, an unflagged email shows no flag image at all.
  • In the Single-Line layout, an unflagged email shows a grey flag.

Problem

The single-line layout is hard to read as the red flag does not stand out from the grey ones. (I am colour blind & so the red colour isn't a strong enough visual signal).

Is there any way to either make unflagged emails show no flag (preferred) or change the colours used for flagged emails?

Example screenshots:

Single Line layout  (Only the top email is flagged)

Single-Line layout

Compact Layout (the same emails as before are being shown):

Compact Layout

P.S.

This issue was raised on the 2013-preview forum but the MVP that responded didn't seem to be aware of the different behaviour between the 2 layouts & so was confused.

Sending Encrypted Emails in Outlook

We recently setup Azure RMS with the intent of sending emails using the Encrypt Only template. This was working fine until recently. A user was having issue with RMS and couldn't download the templates. I followed the steps from this article (https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/7d467c59-8048-4adf-904f-e1ebdd4040a2/no-logged-on-office-users-are-configured-for-information-rights-management-irm?forum=WindowsAzureAD) and was able to bring back the templates. Upon attempting to send an email with the Encrypt Only template, however, Outlook prompted the error "Microsoft Outlook was not able to create a message with restricted permission". I tested RMS using the Poweshell cmdlet Test-IRMConfiguration -sender [USER EMAIL] and all tests passed just fine. I was also able to send encrypted emails from my own account without any issue. I suspect that the issue is not with our Azure RMS configuration.

I know how to turn off the AutoComplete (Suggest names) option from Outlook. Is there a way to only let it auto complete for just those employees in our company?

Move Online Archive folder to main Inbox

I have a user who wants to have all of her Online Archive folders to be moved to her main Inbox, and she wants it to auto-route to the main Inbox.  I've found some PowerShell cmdlets about turning Auto Archive either on or off, but nothing about auto routing to the main Inbox.  Didn't know if any PowerShell Ninjas knew of anything.

BTW, she can access the Archive folder within the Outlook desktop client just fine.  It's just confusing for her and she wants it all in one location.

Thanks!

Custom contact form

Hello,

So I am an intern at PROMAN and my job is to help them implement office 365 because they are still using IBM Lotus Note and I think it could be massive step forwards using Outlook, Teams, Yammer, ...

The only thing that is holding them back is the database advantage of IBM Note. So they have a database with 10000 of CV's from people all across the world and they can search according to what language is on the CV, previous experience, age, even on in an attachment ... Only problem is that I cannot find what type of data is stored in IBM Note... So I cannot export it as a CSV file and import these into outlook.

So I have been searching in Office contacts to create a custom form so you can enter data from the CV instead of regular contact info so they could have to same in Outlook. I have succeeded in this but when you go to the search option and search for example 'English level 5' it doesn't show any results. But I did add the data to the contact that is stored in outlook.

Is there a special way you have to edit the contact form so it stores the data as a text or something else so I can search on those specific data entries?

Is there someone who has done the same thing or has experience with custom contact forms in outlook?

Thank you very much

Do sharing policies work when using Hybrid?

Do sharing policies work when using Hybrid?

When we were using Exchange 2013 we set a scripting agent to change the default calendar sharing to Reviewer.

We have now moved to Exchange online and are using a Hybrid setup because we send and receive mail with a Smart Host.

I have created a Sharing policy to set the default calendar permission to Reviewer, but it is not working? Have I missed something, or does it not work that way in hybrid?

Outlook 2016 continual password prompt

$

We are upgrading from WIN7 to WIN10, and from Outlook 2013 to Outlook 2016.

We run our email (POP3) through DSLExtreme and our own domain name.

In all prior versions of Outlook we've used, once the password was entered to access the mail server you continued to receive mail until closing the program. Enter one time at program start up. "Remember password" has never been selected.

Outlook 2016 continually requests the password every time it accesses the mail server. For some every 5 minutes, some every 10 minutes, whatever the interval is set up for.

It will continue to receive mail without the password prompt if "Remember password" is selected, but then does not require sign in then next time Outlook is started. We prefer to be able to open Outlook without downloading new email until we actually enter the email password, so just putting a password to open Outlook would still allow mail to automatically be received.

Is this an Outlook 2016 issue only? Or Outlook 2016 with WIN10? Or only POP3 accounts with Outlook 2016?

Is there a workaround to the constant password request other than "Remember password" ?

Mail delivery issue in Outlook 2013 since user updated iPhone???

$

Hopefully this is the correct forum for this:

One of my users recently started experiencing delivery issue in Outlook 2013. She would see new mail arrive on her iPhone but would have to click send/receive in the Outlook desktop app for the mail to be delivered there. The thing is, this only started to happen after she updated her iPhone 8 to iOS 13.1.2, but no other changes were made anywhere else.

My first though was that was merely a coincidence, so I set up a test laptop with her profile and launched Outlook. Sure enough NEW mail isn't delivered unless you click send/receive. No other user is experiencing this issue. I actually have the exact model phone and at the same iOS version and do not experience this issue.

So to check if that was in fact the issue we removed her Exchange email account from her iPhone and sure enough that resolved the issue.

The only change had been updating iOS to the current version. No Outlook or Exchange changes and nobody else is seeing this issue in my org

Anybody else experience this?? I've seen issues in the past with contact not syncing properly but never with mail delivery

Thank you

I had Outlook 2013 setup to connect to my Live/Outlook.com account, and it was working 100%

Since Monday, I cannot connect. Have recreated my Profile, reloaded OS and software. With no luck. The Outlook 2013 setup gets to the Logging on to the mail server setting and then brings up a notification that "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable...

I can connect to Outlook.com via my web browser.

Please help

I have a few thousand email files exported as .olm files from outlook 2011 in my hard drive. I want to access these files or read these files in Entourage 2008. I have tried all the import methods but none is working accurately. Only the folders get imported but the emails in them do not. So is there any other way to access these olm files in Entourage 2008?

Why does Outlook keep prompting for password

$
0
0

We have seen our community members ask questions about Outlook keeps prompting for credentials many times. This issue could be caused by numerous reasons. Below is a list of the most common reasons for this problem:

    • Outlook is configured to prompt you for credentials
    • Incorrect password cached in credential storage
    • Required Authentication Settings for outgoing server and incoming server
    • Outlook Anywhere is not configured to use NTLM Authentication
    • Corrupt Outlook profile
    • Slow or unstable network connection
    • Antivirus programs
    • Shared calendars

Outlook is configured to prompt you for credentials

If you are using an Exchange account, there is a setting in your Outlook profile to always prompt for logon credentials. To find the setting, please follow:

    1. In Outlook 213, go to File tab > Info>Account Settings> Account Settings…

    2. Highlight your Exchange account and click Change button.

    3. Click on More Settings button.

    4. Select the Security tab.

    5. Under the User Identification, make sure the “Always prompt for logon credentials” option is not selected.

If you are using other types of email, please make sure you have ticked the option “Remember password”.

Incorrect credential cached in Credential Manager

Your Windows system stores user credentials on your computer. If the cached credentials are incorrect, you will be prompted for password. This issue usually happens after the password for your domain user account is changed. Before your password changed, you saved your credentials. The stored credentials are not overwritten when Outlook triggers the authentication prompt even if you enable the Remember my credentials option.

To fix this issue, you need to remove the corrupted credentials, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Credential Manager.

Note If View by is set to Category, click User Accounts first, and then click Credential Manager.

    2. Locate  the set of credentials that has Outlook in the name.

    3. Click the name to expand the set of credentials, and then click Remove from Vault.

Repeat step 3 for any additional sets of credentials that have the word Outlook in the name.

Required Authentication Settings for outgoing server and incoming server

Different email provider may need different authentication settings. Please make sure you have set the server settings correctly. You can contact your email provider to gather the information.

In general, we select the “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” option and the first bullet “Use same settings as my incoming mail server”.

In addition, click on the Advanced tab and check if you have enter the correct Server Port Number and select the correct encrypt type. Below is a screenshot for an IMAP account:

Outlook Anywhere is not configured to use NTLM Authentication

The Outlook Anywhere feature allows you to access your Exchange account remotely from the Internet when you are working outside your organization's firewall.

When using Outlook Anywhere to connect to your Exchange server, we need to choosethe authentication method among Basic Authentication, NTLM Authentication and Negotiate Authentication. The difference among them is the way that the passwords are sent when connecting to the server. With Basic Authentication, the password is sent in clear text. Using NTLM Authenticationcan significantly reduce the number of password prompts.

To check the authentication setting, please go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings, select the Exchange account, and then clickChange. In the Change Account wizard, click More Settings, and then click the Connection tab. Click the Exchange Proxy Settings button and now, you can see the settings underProxy authentication settings. Try to change the authentication toNTLM Authentication and then check the issue again.

      Slow or unstable network connection

If your network connection is slow or unstable, Outlook may lose connection to the mail server. When Outlook try to reconnect, it will prompt for the credentials. To verify this, please switch to a stable network environment and then check if this issue persists.

      Corrupt Outlook Profile

Corrupt profile may cause Outlook to no longer remember your password. Please try to create a new mail profile in Control Panel and reconfigure your email account in the new profile to fix the issue. To create a new mail profile, you can refer:

      http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918

      Antivirus software

Antivirus software usually integrates into your Outlook and it may cause some conflicts. Try to temporarily turn off your antivirus software to check if the issue will be gone.

      Shared Calendar

Shared calendars can impact the user credentials, this issue may also occur if you have shared calendars opened in Outlook. You can try to unselect the shared calendar to check the result. It’s recommended to not open the shared calendar unless you want to view them.

If you have any comments, welcome to post in the forum. Thank you.

Cannot move emails to subfolders after searching Outlook

      Hi guys,

I currently have the Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016, and have been having this issue for around 2 weeks now since my outlook was updated to the latest version.

If I am going through my inbox normally, I can move emails into different subfolders both individually or in a group.

However, after I search for something in the search bar (either in Current Mailbox, or in Current Folder) I can't seem to move any emails into folders. They will just stay in the inbox and not move at all, even when I close and re-open Outlook.

This has made it really difficult to organize my inbox as I need to go through and find individual emails from a specific thread that I want to move out of my inbox.

I spoke to someone on Live Chat and they asked for remote access to my computer, however I'm not really sure I'm able to do this as I'm on a work computer so don't really have the liberty to give remote access due to confidentiality.

Has anyone else been having this issue? Any help would really be appreciated :)

      Thanks,

      Laetitia

How do I change the password that connects my Outlook for iPhone app with my Exchange server?

I changed my domain password so I needed to change it on my iPhone Outlook app. I have looked everywhere I can think of, in the settings and everywhere else, and cannot find anything that will allow me to change the password. I had to uninstall and re-install. This seems ridiculous to me.

      Outlook 2016 Cannot resolve recipient

      $

      0

Problem:  When sending an email to "any" external address using autocomplete, receive message, "The operation failed.  The messaging interfaces have returned an unknown error.  If the problem persists, restart Outlook.  Cannot resolve recipient."

This problem only happens with external addresses.  Internal addresses are fine.  I am not using PST files.

Current work around:  When creating a new email, I delete the external address from the autocomplete list and retype the address manually.  Email is sent.  But when I use autocomplete to send another email to the same address that I just typed in, I get the error message that it can't resolve the recipient.

Troubleshooting steps I tried but didn't work; (1) deleted/recreated Outlook profile using Control Panel/Outlook. (2) Manually deleted local .OST file and have Outlook recreate it. (3) selected "Empty auto-complete list" under file\options\mail\send messages.

In summary, if I am sending to a new external email address where I have to type it in, the email is sent.  Any subsequent emails to that same address fail as long as that address is contained in the autocomplete history listing.
