Can a PST lose all content

I have a user that was putting PST files on a network drive. (I know not to do this)

Over the weekend, he got the message that the file was corrupt. He ran SCANPST on it. Once it was done, it had no content and was at 265kb. User is convinced that it was near 16GB is size. I tried running the SCANPST on that file, but it was still 265kb like I thought.

Is it possible for PST files to lose all content when storing these on network drives?


User's Outlook calendar has busy appointments not created by user

A user just opened a ticket with us (IT) because her Outlook calendar suddenly has a bunch of appointments in it starting this week and continuing for the next 5 weeks where it just shows "Busy" in the description. These are the user's own appointments, not a viewing of someone else's calendar. The user states she did not input these appointments. There are anywhere from 5 to 8 of these each week, at a different day and time for each appointment (not recurring). The user is afraid to delete them since she did not create them and wants us to "fix" this. I do not understand what would cause this. We use Office 365 to host our email. The user is using Office 2016 on her PC but these appointments also show the same in OWA. I opened her mailbox in OWA and I am seeing the same thing as the user. Can anyone tell me what would cause this? I tried to Google it but just keep getting stuff about appointments in someone else's calendar showing as "busy" due to permissions.

Outlook Exchange 2019 server: automatic tracking for email messages not working

A user has settings for tracking Mail: For all messages sent, request"Delivery receipt confirming the message was delivered to the recipient's email server" checked. The user reported that the recipient was not asked to send the receipt back. The recipient was on the same Outlook server.

The user then reported that when sending an email, by selecting "Request a Delivery Receipt" under Options, the receipt does work as expected. 

Our issue is that setting the option to always get a delivery receipt does not work. 

Any advice is appreciated. 

unable to create automatic replies

Hi,

We have a customer that recently migrated from an onsite Exchange 2010 to office365, The migration went smooth and we went ahead and configure the first 4 staff. 

Staff1: has Outlook 2016

Staff2: has Outlook 365

Staff3: has Outlook 365

Staff4: has Outlook 2013

All staff 1-3 have no issues, we're able to reconfigure the profiles without any issues and they're able to create automatic replies or Out of Office replies. except for staff 4 which has Outlook 2013. I had some issues initially with regards to the autodiscover which is fine because I was able to setup the profile manually pointing it to Outlook.office365.com and was able to retrieve emails but the Out of office isn't working and just shows 

'your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable. try again later'

I did test the email configuration and OOF URL is still: mail.<domain name>.com --> so I assume it's still looking into the old onsite Exchange server

any idea on this issue?

E-mails sent by Mail Merge are rejected

Hi, 

I need help. I´m trying so sent an information for a data base in excel with 1170 contacts (e-mails). Done severals attents by always with problems.

1º attent: 

- Sent the mail merge for 1170 emails all at once. 

- Result: nothing happens, I think the emails weren´t sent.

2º attent: 

- split the excel file in sheet with 250 contacts each. 

- Result: 1º sheet: 220 emails sent with sucess , 30 emails rejected; 2º sheet: 250 emails rejected

After this, all the emails sent are rejected. Even if I only sent 20 emails. 

Info: using Ofice 365: word and Outlook, the email is from a company. 

What I'm doing wrong :(

Outlook 365 in Registry- adding email addresses

I know my outlook only comes with space for 10 email addresses. With my business I need many more.

On my past PCs, i could go into the Reg Editor and add to the Value Data under MaxNumExchange while editing DWORD.

But on this new PC, the Exchange is not where I have seen it previously. I cannot find it anywhere in the regedit.

Does anyone know where I can look? Or is there another way to get outlook to allow more addresses?

I have outlook 365, I also have Windows 10 Home version, the PC is a Dell if that matters.

Sharing Outlook QuickParts Between Employees

Hi we are wanting to create a shareable outlook quickparts for our department. then each employee can use these quick parts in their emails. keeping everything consistant and we only have to update one area when changes occur.

I was thinking of creating a word document (normalemail.dotm) that has all the quick parts and then when everyone opens outlook they use this dotm to get their quick parts from.

is this possibe or is there a better way?

Outlook Mobile App Doesn't Refresh Inbox

I have been trying to figure out why my mobile email never seems to sync my inbox automatically. I use an iPhone, and have tried several different mail clients including Outlook and Apples mail app. My email account is with AOL, and the best thing I found to work was using AOLs mail app...generally the badge icon displayed the accurate number of new emails. I use the Outlook app on my desktop PC and it works great, I thought for a while that leaving it open may intercept new emails preventing them from being delivered to my mobile app but it does not help if I I close my desktop Outlook app.

As a side question, I am also curious how to get my mobile app to use the same spam filtering my desktop app uses or has learned over the years. When I open my mobile app it then syncs and displays tons of spam which stays there until I open my desktop app which uses its spam filter and moves them to the spam folder. I thought leaving my desktop app open would act as a mail server and automatically move spam with the mobile app reflecting how my desktop has moved the spam. If I mark them as spam in my mobile app it does not route them to the same spam folder in my desktop app. 

At one point I even ran 3 or 4 mobile email apps at the same time to see which would sync and receive new emails first or most consistently but that seemed to work even worse, as if it had too many options so it just decided not to send them to any of the apps at all. So I tested them independently and you could wait for days for the badge icon to show the number of new emails, the apps only sync when you open them...I looked hard in the settings for a sync or refresh-rate setting but there is none. I really do not want to rely on AOLs mobile app because I have other email accounts I want to add to my phone. I made sure my desktop and mobile app(s) were configured as IMAP, because POP will be a mess if I am using both mobile and desktop mail clients...plus I would rather have the security of my emails being on a server somewhere.

Outlook for Mac

When I used to use Outlook on a PC, emails would open in a separate window which would make it easy to toggle between open emails (you would use alt/tab).  It seems more clunky on a Mac.  Is it possible to get emails to open separately from the main outlook window so you can use a two finger slide to toggle between an open email, another open email, and your inbox?  Or, is it possible to get this functionality on the Touch Bar?  I'm constantly moving between different open emails and my inbox and/or calendar and having to minimize then open another email or click on the inbox is not very efficient or elegant.  

hotmail deletting my inbox mail

Hi i've ussing hotmail (outlook) mail for a few years and have no complaints ever but since this past week all my inbox mail automatically its going to trash mail all of it and thats happening like every 2 to 4 days! i then have to go into trash folder and star getting back all of my mail that was on my inbox!

Any clues? i do use the web browser to acces my mail and also my iphone and ipads to get it.

Send-As Attachments Causing Outlook 2010 to Temporarily Freeze

Hello:

I have an odd, rather intermittent and non-repeatable issue, effecting a large handful of our users involving sending attachments in our Exchange/Outlook 2010 environment. Both Windows 7 and 10 machines are affected. The issue is when the user takes an Excel or Word document and tries to 'Save & Send,' the Outlook client goes into a non-responsive state; the document eventually sends, but the Office app freezes for minutes.

Just to clarify the issue happens after the user presses the send button (with the doc attached), not when the user selects 'Send as Attachment' within Excel.

I have disabled potential add-ins, started in safe mode, repaired Office installations, even a new computer for testing. Results are inconclusive, as it happens on all them periodically. Is there a Windows update that has caused this?

Text + Image from Excel to Outlook: format shifter for the recepient

Hello,

With a VBA macro, I create an email in copying text plus image coming from an excel sheet and pasting it in a body of an email. Before sending it, everything is fine. Yet, some recipients see it completely shifted. What it is strange is that it is not everybody. I did not succeed to identify the root cause, knowing that format of the email is HTML and same format is used for the recepient.

For all users in organization, I need to add automapped shared mailboxes as an additional account in same or new profile of Outlook 2010 with offline/sync slider to All or cache all emails.

User mailboxes on Exchange 2010 with full access permission on shared mailboxes.

Shared mailboxes on Exchange 2010 Users using Citrix environment 2016 with roaming profile.

Looking for a script or automated way to achieve this.

I have googled it, however no success. Checked OCT/prf which seems to be not working for me as different users have permission on different mailboxes.

 

O365 outlook windowsapp search very slow

Hello,

We are experiencing a very slow search in Outlook windowsapp. We are not using any cache.
When we use OWA the search function goed really fast. 

Anyone any ideas, on the reason why?

Message not showing in normal Inbox, but does show in Search Folder or if I do a Quick Search

Today, I had an unusual problem with my standard Inbox plus an Outlook 2010 search folder.  An incoming email shows correctly, just as expected, in my search folder, but is not visible at all in my Inbox. This is just happening for one particular message.

I happened to be looking at my screen when this happened. The desktop alert/taskbar notification told me an email just arrived.  I didn't click on the notification, but when I went to my Inbox, the email didn't show in the Inbox, but was in the search folder.

The environment is Office 2010, I think one SP behind (14.0.6023.1000, 32 bit).  The Search Folder isn't anything unusually complex, just a search folder with a list of about 10 emails as the criteria.  I even tried intentionally dragging and dropping a test email into the search folder, on the chance I had done the infamous accidental drag and drop with my mouse, but it's not possible to drag/drop into a search folder.

A "normal" search using the quick search shows the email, but regular viewing the inbox doesn't.  Sort order is "received date/time" descending.  Other emails from other people have arrived today, that map to that same search folder, and all the others show properly/as expected, in my Inbox and in the Search Folder.

Outlook365 ATP___If Outlook365 junk email is turned off, will ATP mail, forwarded to Junk folder  still go there ?

So if   Don't move email to my Junk Email folder

is checked in,

Office Outlook365,

My accounts,

My account,

Settings,

Mail,

Accounts,

Block_or_allow,

will suspected  ATP  bad email still be sent to the Junk email folder ?

Not all email shows in inbox.

This is NOT a filtering issue.  I have multiple users, including myself, that have noticed that not all email are showing in the inbox on occasion.  For instance, this morning one of them showed me she had 4 unread email in her inbox from her phone.  But when we look at her Outlook inbox, there were only 2 showing, and they were SUBSEQUENT to the ones that were not showing.  

We use the current version of O365, and email is Exchange in the Microsoft cloud.  I should add that clicking out of the inbox (like to Sent Items) and then back into the inbox fixes the issue for those missing email.  If you do not do that, you still receive subsequent email in your inbox, but the prior ones still do not appear.

Any ideas how to fix this besides clicking on another folder and then back in the inbox?

Outlook needs password but dialog box disappears

Hello, 

I am currently troubleshooting an ongoing issue where Outlook stops working and a prompt reads "Need Password" at the bottom of the Outlook window. Typically, clicking this text would give you a prompt to login to your Office 365 account. However, when clicking the text, the window opens and then closes itself within half a second. I expect the "Need Password" prompt would only appear if there was a password change to the linked account but that is not the case. 

I've tried quite a few fixes online and none of them seem to work. 

  • Disconnect the associated account in Windows and restart the machine.
    - After doing this and trying to open Outlook, the password dialog box opens prompting you to enter your credentials. Once entered, Outlook connectivity resumes.
  • Running Outlook in safe mode
    - This does not help the problem as it is also visible while in safe mode. 
  • Editing the registry and adding (EnableADAL & DisableADALaptopWAMOverride) entries.
    - This fix requires you to modfiy the following path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity with the two entries mentioend above. EnableADAL should be set to 0 and DisableADALaptopWAMOverride to 1. Both of these entries do not solve the issue.
  • Uninstalling & Reinstalling
    - After I uninstalled / reinstalled Office 365, the issue appears to be okay at first. A few days go by and the issue returns. 
  • Restarting
    - Restarting the machine seems to fix the problem temporarily. However, I've had a few instances where continuous restarts would not fix the problem. 

Any help would be appreciated as I have contacted Office 365 support and this leads to absolutely no where.

Outlook Desktop Client Categories Into Favorites

In the Outlook web client it's pretty easy to get the color coded categorizations into Favorites; you just click the star.  

But in the Outlook desktop client there doesn't seem to be a way to add them to Favorites...

Which would be ideal for organizing projects. 

Missing rules after upgrade to Outlook 2016 but rules still being applied!

I had a set of rules in Outlook 2007 which moved incoming mail to the appropriate folder based on various criteria.

I recently upgraded to Outlook 2016 and didn't give much thought to the rules until now. They were still working as they should.

Today, I wanted to add a new rule and clicked on the Rules icon and selected Manage Rules. Lo and behold there is no sign of any rules at all!

Where are they and how are they still working?

I upgraded on my Windows 10 64-bit PC to Office 2016 32-bit. Outlook version is now 16.0.6001.1038 32-bit

I have an Outlook.com account as the default account and my 5 POP pre-existing accounts which all use the one PST file.

The rules specified that when an email was received to specific accounts, it was moved to a specific folder which is now in the Personal file - so stored in the local pst file (presumably)
