Starting last week I cannot used the Teams add-in. When it is enabled and I try to open a new meeting invite or an appointment on my calendar outlook crashes. I've tried using scanpst and I've created a new Outlook profile but the issue persists. Has anyone else seen this issue? Is there a known fix?

How to designate Internet Calendar as read only

$

In Outlook 2010 I have subscribed to an Internet Calendar that is read only on the server end. It is not designated as read only in the Outlook client. A user can add an event to this calendar in Outlook, and it persists in the Outlook view of that calendar, but it does not update the calendar on the server end and generates an error in Outlook.

Is there a way to mark this calendar as read only in Outlook so Outlook does not permit attempts to add events? On the properties dialog of this calendar there is no 'Permissions' tab.

Outlook UTF-8 encoding issue for incoming emails

I use Office 2013 Professional. When I read international emails (for example in German or French with special characters like ü,ö,...) in gmail or yahoo mail, they display fine, but Outlook 2013 mostly replaces non-English characters with ?, [nothing], or other strange characters. Now, when I open the Outlook message in a separate window, then specifically select UTF-8 encoding the special characters display fine! But the incoming message header was already as below:

MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64

Is this a bug in Outlook? I've seen people report it elsewhere, but the suggestion to manually change the encoding and saving it to each message is a poor solution.

Outlook Public Folder Calendars Not Syncing Category Colors

$

We just upgraded from Outlook 2003 to 2010. We're using Exchange 2003. With Outlook 2003, our users were using a bunch of public folder calendars to manage booking appointments for therapists. They would color code each appointment, to signify something of importance.

Since migrating to Outlook 2010, those color codes are not consistent between users. One person may see red for an appointment, where another person may see blue.

What has changes between these versions and what might I do to fix this problem?

Shared calendar not sending out email to accept and add calendar

Hi all,

We're currently in the process of moving towards Shared Calendars.

One of the issues I've encountered is with new hires. When a new employee is hired and they need access to a shared calendar. Adding the employee to the mail enabled security group does not automatically send that person the email to accept and add the calendar to Outlook nor will it auto-populate the calendar in their Outlook.

How have you gotten around this issue?

Thanks!

Need assistance on Rules and Alerts.

Is there a way to export a single rule to another pc or may pc? If yes, does it overwrite their existing rules?

I need to create a rule or rules to share it with my colleagues and hopefully it can be automatic and nor overwrites their existing rule.

Advance thanks,

Daboizki

Outlook 2016 flickering (Office 365)

I have a strange issue where one user is complaining that his Outlook will start flickering on occasion. Seems to happen randomly. I've uploaded a clip below of the issue:

https://drive.google.com/a/cubexgroup.com/file/d/0B5_Ri3eDovkWNWlfMTU4RFFaREE/view?usp=sharing

So far nothing I have done has resolved it. Steps <g class="gr_ gr_35 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" data-gr-id="35" id="35">taken</g>:

  • Disable all un-necessary outlook add-ins. He doesn't want to run in safe mode for a few days so that's the best I can do.
  • Did a full online Office 365 apps repair via control panel
  • Set him up with a new Outlook profile
  • Made sure his Office 2016 was up to date.

Anyone see this before?

Teams Meeting button missing in Outlook 2016 for Mac

Hi all,

I've just updated to the latest (December 2018) installation of Office for Mac, using my Office 365 subscription (corporate), on a device which already had the previous latest version installed, including with Microsoft Teams.

I understand as part of the release notes (And the "Whats' new" popup when opening outlook) that one new feature is the Teams Meeting button - however, for the life of me, I cannot seem to get it to appear. The "Skype meeting" button is there, but the equivalent for Teams does not show. I've tried the following:

  • Starting Outlook first, then opening Teams.
  • Starting Teams first, then opening Outlook.
  • Uninstalling and restarting Teams.
  • Restarting machine (fully from cold boot).

Oddly, the integration with teams is working in the Outlook Online client in Office 365 (i.e. visiting my mailbox through a browser), so it doesn't appear to be that my account is not licensed for teams etc - it just appears to be the client on Mac which does not display the meeting button correctly.

All the other changes from this update - including Dark Mode and the new Ribbon - have worked and are installed successfully.

Anyone else having this problem? I'd love to hear if someone has figured out the trick to "enable" Teams Meetings in Outlook...

Prepend text in subject line for exchange 2016

I created a rule on our exchange 2016 server that would add [EXTERNAL] to any email that comes in from the outside so people know the difference between internal and external email using the Prepend the subject of the message with...

However, the issue we are running into is on the first message we get it shows [EXTERNAL], if the customer replies back to that message it then shows up as [EXTERNAL] RE:[EXTERNAL] and will keep showing external everytime the outside email address replies back to the email. Is there a way so that it only attaches that once and then every other reply from that person it does not continue to add [EXTERNAL] to the incoming emails?

Outlook needs password but dialog box disappears

Hello,

I am currently troubleshooting an ongoing issue where Outlook stops working and a prompt reads "Need Password" at the bottom of the Outlook window. Typically, clicking this text would give you a prompt to login to your Office 365 account. However, when clicking the text, the window opens and then closes itself within half a second. I expect the "Need Password" prompt would only appear if there was a password change to the linked account but that is not the case.

I've tried quite a few fixes online and none of them seem to work.

  • Disconnect the associated account in Windows and restart the machine.
    - After doing this and trying to open Outlook, the password dialog box opens prompting you to enter your credentials. Once entered, Outlook connectivity resumes.
  • Running Outlook in safe mode
    - This does not help the problem as it is also visible while in safe mode.
  • Editing the registry and adding (EnableADAL & DisableADALaptopWAMOverride) entries.
    - This fix requires you to modfiy the following path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity with the two entries mentioend above. EnableADAL should be set to 0 and DisableADALaptopWAMOverride to 1. Both of these entries do not solve the issue.
  • Uninstalling & Reinstalling
    - After I uninstalled / reinstalled Office 365, the issue appears to be okay at first. A few days go by and the issue returns.
  • Restarting
    - Restarting the machine seems to fix the problem temporarily. However, I've had a few instances where continuous restarts would not fix the problem.

Any help would be appreciated as I have contacted Office 365 support and this leads to absolutely no where.
Thank you.

Reading Pane on a separate monitor with multiple monitors?

I use multiple monitors in my office. I would like to be able to have the reading pane on a separate monitor by itself. Is this possible to do anyhow? Maybe with the help of some add-on?

I find that Outlook, in general, is very unfriendly to multiple monitors and improving productivity using multiple monitors.

Thanks,

Osho

Hello there,

We are trying to find a policy or register key that would enable us to block users who already have one account in Outlook of adding another one. So new users should be able to add their own mail account but not another one.

Is there a policy or register key that we can us for this?

Our environment:

Outlook 2013 changes picture width to 5%

Our customers uses OnePlus android smartphones (OnePlus 3 and 6), on these phones they use the outlook app. The pictures they make are sent to a Outlook 2013 client. Somehow these images get squashed to 5% width (hight is ok). We tested with a outlook 2016 and 365 pro plus client (other customer) and there are no problems with the image sizing. You can save the picture and view its normal size in other tools. Other customers with the older office 2013 have the same behavior with the sizing.

The native outlook app on the phones resizes the photo itself, in the outlook app the resize image option seems to do nothing, also on mij samsung s10 the resize option doesn't resize the photo. Pictures mad from my s9 doesn't have any problems with sending it from the outlook app to a Outlook 2013 client, no image resizing there.

If i save the picture from the outlook 2013 client and insert it again and mail it to myself it seems to be fine.

I think its an office 2013 design thing (maximum image sizes to view in outlook 2013 client), anyone can confirm this? or is there a known solution so that outlook 2013 doesn't squash the image.

(I have no pictures available, my account isnt verified yet)

i hope they get to office 2016/365 soon.

Thanks in Advance,

Tino.

Outlook 2013 emails disappeared (IMAP) - possible bug

$

Hi,

first I ask my question - how do I get back my emails? Now the issue (a little longer story)...

I have a strange situation here. I'm using Outlook 2013 for an imap account. I organize my emails in imap folders by client name and use rules to move emails to the correct folder. One of my clients changed the company name 7 months ago. So I changed the folder name from "ClientName" to "ClientName / NewClientName" and updated the rule. Everything worked fine until yesterday. I received an email from the client and Outlook showed my a "rule error" message - the rule cannot be applied and outlook was not able to move the email to the correct folder. I checked the rule and the issue was that the folder name was empty. So I wanted to set the folder, but I realized there was no "ClientName / NewClientName" folder and "ClientName" was back. So I set this folder and looked into it. And here is the issue - all emails for last 7 months were gone. The last email was from 7th May 2019... I contacted my email provider and they told me, there wasn't any "ClientName / NewClientName" on the server (they checked backups from days before the issue occurred), only "ClientName" and the last email in this folder was from 7th May.

So I investigated the issue on Outlook side and this is what happened: I changed the folder name, but outlook was not able to sync this change with server because imap folder cannot contain "/". At least I'm not able to create a folder with "/" through web mail interface. But Outlook DID NOT SAY ANYTHING and everything seemed to be working for 7 months... The rule was moving new emails to the folder, but the folder was not syncing, so on server side the emails simply disappeared. And yesterday, due to unknown reason, Outlook decided to sync all folders with server, so he removed the folder "ClientName / NewClientName" and restored the folder "ClientName" from server. And all emails for last 7 months are gone... It is easy to reproduce this situation - I created a folder with name "a" and moved an email into this folder. I synced it and checked it through web mail, it was there... Then I renamed the folder to "a / a" and moved another email into it. I sync it (without any error message) and checked it through web mail - the folder name stayed "a" and there was only one email. I think this is an Outlook bug...

So, is there anything I can do to get my emails back?

Thank you for any help

Hi Technet Experts,

CreateObject getVersion Outlook registry key reference

$

Posted this elsewhere, but have yet to see a single response. Really could use some insight or suggestions, anything really.

Issue:

Program uses CreateObject to create a new email form using locally installed Outlook. Part of this involves a getVersion check in the registry to a key that has a value of a file path under C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\

that then goes to a folder for Outlook which contains the current build version of the program on the system. After an update, the build version updated and generated a new folder which contains the appropriate dll files and a separate OUTLOOK.exe file used for this automation process.

The thinking is that the registry key's value was not updated to then match this change after the Office update. The program attempting to create a new email/message form then hits a dead-end as the folder for the previous build is no longer there, it was removed as part of the Office update process. This leads to the program instantly terminating and in the Event Viewer showing a KERNELBASE.dll and .NET framework errors.

Repetitive online repairs of Office do NOT affect this registry key and the issue persists.

Conclusion for a resolution is to manually correct the registry key value to point to the correct folder that matches the current build of Outlook.

Example:  forced an error to show where the registry is looking-

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.Office.Desktop.Outlook_16051.11629.20214.0_x86__8wekyb3d8bbwe\Office16\Outlook.exe

Folder/file path it SHOULD be looking at instead.

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.Office.Desktop.Outlook_16051.12130.20344.0_x86__8wekyb3d8bbwe\Office 16\Outlook.exe

The work-around found was to copy the current build folder, re-name it to the previous build noted in the error so it matches and no longer dead-ends, restoring the function, but an error still occurs after the fact due to there still being a mis-match existing between the registry/actual outlook build version.

There are redundant keys that reference the same file path - hoping someone can tell me for certain which specific key the command checks to find the version/file path so it can be manually corrected.

Trying to avoid having to go through each and every key, change the value, see if the process breaks and just trial/error the whole thing. Asked in a couple other places already and just a side-note, does not have anything to do with the store app for Office.

Thanks for your time and any advice.
