Outlook 2010 converts all replies to Plain Text

$

I have been having an issue for about one month with Outlook 2010 where every time a rich text or HTML message is replied to, Outlook defaults the reply to a plain text message.  Important facts are:

  • My computer is running Outlook 2010 connected to Exchange, and my anti-virus software is Microsoft Security Essentials.
  • I have checked the Outlook -> Options -> Mail -> Compose Message area, and the default "compose messages in this format" drop-down is set to HTML.
  • I have checked that the "Message Format" box for sending is "Convert to HTML Format"
  • I have checked in the Trust Center under E-Mail Security, and none of the "Read as Plain Text" radio boxes are checked.
Has anybody encountered this?  It may be related to some updates by MS for Office or MS Security Essentials, but a search of the discussion threads yielded nothing.

Thanks in advance.

Grouping Inbox by Flag Status Shows Multiple Unflagged Sections

This is a continuation of the old thread here since it was improperly marked as "solved" (a workaround is never a solution) so Microsoft suggested I created a new thread rather than trying to re-open an old one.

Summary of issue: When sorting/grouping your inbox by flagged status, at times, more ten one "unflagged" section may appear.

Some users, prefer having their inbox grouped/sorted by flagged status as it allows them to mark messages they need to follow up on, and then they jump to the top of the inbox list to catch your attention. When the task is completed, it can either be marked as completed, or the flag can be cleared which brings the message back down into the list with the other messages. I personally find this a very efficient way of managed tasks and keeping organized, but sometimes, there is a bug that comes up with prohibits this feature from working correctly.

I personally have only noticed it happen when I am using Outlook for Mac, and then return to my PC. It seems like whenever Outlook for Mac synchronizes, it does something to the sort order which causes multiple unflagged sections to appear. Furthermore, it makes it confusing when I get new mail since sometimes it comes to the top of my inbox, while other times it comes to the top of the second unflagged section, which is in the middle of my inbox. The only way to correct this unorganized mess is to select all of the messages, flag them, and then unflag all of them. This merges all the groups back into one. I personally have been able to avoid this issue by never using the Mac version of outlook, and rather only using the PC version of Outlook inside a Windows VM when I am using my Mac. Others have mentioned they have noticed the issue even if they do not the Mac version of Outlook, so it could be something completely different causing it.

I am running Office 2010 on the PC's, and Office 2011 on the Mac. Our company was originally running Exchange 2007, but have since upgraded to Exchange 2010 and the issue is still occurring. I have tried the standard troubleshooting of rebuilding my profile, creating a new profile, reinstalling Outlook, trying different/new computers, and even using webmail. All of which do not help the problem.

If anyone else is having the problem, or knows of something that could fix the problem, please reply!

Import calendar events

Guys

Question 1

My computer crashed and I had a backup of the PST file but when I opened it, no calendar events showed up. Don't these calendar events exist as part of the PST - they don't show up in the folder structure

Question 2

Thankfully, I had also separately exported all Calendar events to another PST file. Is there a tool so that I can import only future & recurring events? I don't want the events from last 10 years to take up space. Maybe a tool that goes through my calendar.pst and deletes all entries except recurring & future?

Thanks

Draft Messages in Outlook 2013 still there after message has been sent

I only started using Outlook 2013 a few days ago. I have noticed that sometimes emails that are automatically saved in the draft folder whilst I am typing them are still in the draft folder after I have sent the email and it has dropped into the sent folder; this does not happen every time. The only way I can get rid of them is to delete them.

Does Outlook 2011 for Mac support IPv6

Doest anyone know whether Outlook 2011 for Mac support IPv6?

If yes, how to configure?

I checked IPv6 Support in Microsoft Products and Services which lists Outlook 2007 but does not list Outlook for Mac or Office 2011 for Mac: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/network/hh994905.aspx .

From https://wikispaces.psu.edu/display/ipv6/IPv6+on+OS+X#IPv6onOSX-NonIPv6enabledapps  I can know that Entourage 2004 and 2008 don't support IPv6.

The key question is Microsoft has no official KB link saying whether Outlook 2011 for Mac client supports IPv6.

Thanks,

Unable to share Outlook calendar. The folder you selected is not available outlook 2007

Getting an error message of "The folder you selected is not available" when trying to view a shared calendar in Outlook 2007 over VPN.  This is using Microsoft Exchange.  We know the permissions are setup correctly because it works with OWA.  I've tried to update the global address book, but I still receive this error after running that update.  Are there any other suggestions to fix this error?  They are not running in cached exchange mode.  I've also tried to delete the outlook profiles, rebooted, and recreated profile and still getting the same issue.  We have not tried a local network connection as that is a couple hours drive for this person.

Problems when searching shared mailbox (Office 2013)

Dear reader,

One of our users is currently having trouble searching e-mails in Outlook 2013.

Once a mail is opened, the user searches for related messages, but no results are returned.

It is Windows 8.1 x64 with Office 2013 x64 SP1.

The mailbox where the search is done on is added as a shared mailbox, but we also tried to add it as a second mailbox. The problem then still persists.

We have tried the following so far:

  • Searched the web / forums for similar problems
  • reinstalled Office
  • reinstalled Windows
  • Scanned pst files wit scanpst.exe
  • rebuilt search index
  • changed from cached Exchange mode to online
  • registered mapiph.dll
  • changed search settings(turning off the limited number of results, including search results from all mailboxes)

We don't get the option to check on the server for e-mails. We run Exchange on premises (so no Office 365).

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Exchange 2013 with Outlook 2013 - Not getting pop-up or mail tips for attachments exceeding max size

$

Our environment is Exchange Server 2013 CU3 and Outlook 2013 in cached mode. We have a transport rule that sets the max attachment size to 20 mb.If someone sends an attachment larger than 20 mb they receive an NDR letting them know the message wasn't delivered because it exceeded the max attachment size. We would like for the user to be prevented from sending the message at all or to at least get a mail tip before they try to send the message. The Outlook pop-up message that says "The file you're attaching is bigger than the server allows. Try putting the file in a shared location ..." isn't being generated for us. Not sure if that's because we're running Exchange or not. If that pop-up isn't going to work it would be nice if the user could at least get a mail-tip warning them that the attachment exceeds the limit. But it doesn't look likes there's a mail-tip for attachment size, only for message size. And, I've found that the message size mail-tip only works if the limit is set on the user. It doesn't seem to work if the limit is set via a transport rule.

Has anyone else gotten Outlook to present the pop-up or a mail-tip when exceeding attachment size? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Outlook 2010 w/GoDaddy IMAP email syncing

$

We're having a host of issues that may translate to Outlook not being an ideal client for IMAP, but I am hoping the forum can provide insight to determine if it's a provider issue or a MS issue.

Specifically, we're having an issue using Outlook 2010 with the IMAP solution from GoDaddy.

After email is received in the Inbox, if the user manually moves emails to non-IMAP folders (an offline PST), they will appear to move to the folder, but then reappear in the inbox a short time later. This also happens with deleted emails- they'll disappear from the inbox only to reappear a short time later. If you check webmail, you will see that the moved or deleted email still resides in the inbox. (Note- if you are working in webmail with Outlook open and delete a message from within webmail, it's instantaneously deleted from the Outlook client, which is great, but we need it to work from within the Outlook client this way too- it deletes or moves immediately on the server).

It seems that what is happening is that either Outlook is not sending the proper command to the server that a message was moved or deleted OR perhaps the server gets the command, but fails to perform the action.

GoDaddy said that the only thing it could be is a "known Outlook issue" wherein message flags are not being delivered to their servers from the Outlook client. I've asked a number of reliable engineers and they've never heard of this issue (but think IMAP is wonky in general).

I have a harder time accepting that because other IMAP accounts seem to work in Outlook, and if flags/commands were not being sent from Outlook, then in theory, none of these accounts should work. Additionally, it's not consistent- sometimes it does work.

Outlook settings are correct according to the provider. Also, in Outlook, under More Settings->Deleted Items we DO have the Purge items when switching folders online option checked, as most of the time, we do want the deleted items to go away if we switch folders. I have noticed that sometimes, but not always, if I move/delete a message and then switch into the folder where it was moved to check that it is there (or another folder entirely to do other work), it doesn't return to the inbox as described above. It's not reliable, and isn't a real solution to the issue, and is not practical to do every time.

It's a huge problem for us because if you spend 40 minutes filing away your email only to have it all pop back to where it was, you've wasted a huge amount of time.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to migrate BCM 2003 data to BCM 2013?

$

I have both a .SBB and .MDF/.LDF version of my BCM 2003 database. I've upgraded to BCM 2013, and have had no success migrating the db over.

In every instance, BCM 2013 identifies the db is old, begins migrating it, and after about 10 mins aborts with an error: Failure to migrate database. No other info provided.

Does anyone know of specific steps to migrate the data? I've read that the db must first be upgraded to BCM 2007. Is that true? And if so, where is it available for download?

The database opens fine in sql server express 2005, and I am able to create a new BCM 2013 db without problem.

The schemas between 2003 and 2013 are quite different... is the migration choking on that?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Why is there a duplicate Outlook 2010 installation on C:\ (after installation on partition S:\)

$

I have installed Office 2010 on an Windows Server 2012 to the partition S:. The system partition is C:. This has worked fine for a couple of days. All of a sudden, for no apparent reason, I find that Outlook is now installed twice.

Besides the outlook.exe located in S:\Apps\..., I find another outlook.exe now also located in C: (default directory C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14). It still works fine, though. Only if I start Outlook from the start screen, it starts the executable located on C:.

I did no re-run the Office installation or change anything to the Office settings! The only thing that I remember: I have downloaded the Microsoft Office 2010 template .admx file in order to change some Outlook settings by GPO (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=18968). I then changed the default .pst location to a network drive on the server. All of this has worked fine and did not produce any errors. Could this have done anything to the physical location of Outlook?

Screening the registry confirms that all Office programs, except Outlook, are located on S. However, Outlook is now located on C, i.e.:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel\InstallRoot contains Path='S:\Apps\...'
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\InstallRoot contains Path='S:\Apps\...'
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\InstallRoot contains Path='C:\ProgramFiles\...'

However, I can also see from the registry that Outlook was once located on S:\Apps. I see the following entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Microsoft Outlook\DLLPathEx='S:\Apps\...'

So, my questions are
a) Why is Outlook now located on C:\, different from all other Office programs, whereas I installed it to S:\?
b) Can I change the path back to S:\ and delete the copy on C:\ by modifying the Office registry settings?
c) Will I run into trouble if I just keep using Outlook on C:? For instance, I am planning to deploy Remote WebApps. When publishing Office programs as RemoteApps, I already found that the Outlook path is set to %systemdrive%, whereas all other programs don't have a path specified (need to be manually re-set to S:\Apps\)...

Thanks

I have more than 1 IMAP account - when the mail is on my computer I want the .OST data files to be the same, so that when I move a mail item to a particular Outlook folder I can use the same ones for all IMAP accounts without having to set them all up multiple times - i.e. once for each folder for each IMAP account.  I can't see any way to change the location of the data file - it just seems to have a default setting.

Outlook 2010 Indexing - fails to complete

$

I recently installed Office 2010 Professional on a Windows 7 Ultimate OS (running Office 32 bit on 64 bit machine) and I find that I nearly always have search problems in Outlook 2010 - message suggests that search is incomplete.  Number of items yet to be completed varies greatly and often the number goes up rather than down e.g. form 20K items to 200K items.  All this is occurring after a point where indexing was complete i.e. no message saying that indexing incomplete and all items searched for returned without a problem.  In an effort to complete indexing left machine on for 4 days - yet still incomplete - seems that indexing was complete at one stage but looks like it starts again. Is there a bug in indexing for Outlook 2010 on Windows 7 and, if so is there a fix please?

Outlook 2013 conversation view doesn't combine messages sent to distribution list unless I reply

$

Lets say xyz@domain.com is a distribution list I am copied on.

Person 1 sends message to xyz@, I get copied on it, fine

Someone on xyz@ distribution list sends a reply to Person 1 and copies xyz@ list

Even though the subject is exactly the same it is not combined as a conversation in my inbox

However, if I personally reply to Person 1 and CC xyz@ distribution list (which I am on), I get my own email copied back to me and it is correctly merged as a conversation.

Is there a setting I am unaware of or is this just working as intended?

granular PST control in Outlook 2010

$

I've got a simple question regarding Outlook and PST's. I know there is a way to prevent Outlook from ADDING DATA to PST's and I know there is a way to prevent Outlook from CREATING NEW PST's.

What I'm seeing is that implementing the latter prevents users from opening EXISTING PST's as well. In my case, I want to try and encourage users to look at their existing PST's and "self-migrate" into their mailbox. While this doesn't require the ability to create new PST's, it does requires the capability to add existing pst's to the profile.

Any ideas on how to accomplish this?
