Hi all,

A user has a functional mailbox added to her personal mailbox. User has all rights on the functional mailbox (including sent as).

When the user sents an Email with the From set to the functional mailbox, the email gets sent and is delivered. But the email appears in her Outbox folder in Outlook (Outbox of her personal mailbox). This happens with all mail sent from the functional mailbox address.

Outlook is 2013
Exchange 2013
Outlook is online
User is working in a Citrix session
User does not have a .ost file (not in the Citrix environment)

Any idea?

Thanks!

Scenario at 2PM: Windows 7 (64 bit) installed and MS Office 2010 with Outlook 2010 installed. E-mails are re-configured to server and all active pst are re-mapped. Receive fresh e-mails.

Problems: All e-mail from 8AM today to 26-Jun 2013 disappear including folders and sub folders created during that perion from the manually created archive pst.

Deleted all my Outlook PST files, I can’t recover them?

After making a full scan today, I choosed "disinfect" for my .pst file, because I don't wanted to "delete" them. That was a huge misunderstanding, since it seems to me, that ad-aware deleted and shredded those files, instead of "disinfecting" them.I want to recover my .pst outlook files, but I can't, even with Piriform Recuva. I miss all my business emails, contacts,
calendars, acount settings etc. from those files that were at those locations:
 C:Users user DocumentsOutlook Filesmyfirstemail.pst
C:Users user Documents Outlook Files Second Email.pst
 E:Users userDocuments Outlook Filesmythirdemail.pst
 E:1Eta_archiv.pst
Those huge files are not in the quarantine nor in the wastebin,
I checked many times, they are realy deleted and shredded. Please help me on the recovery of those files or give me at least some advice.

Corrupted Outlook archive.pst file

I have an issue with trying to make a copy of Outlook's "archive.pst" file in that it keeps failing a CRC check when I attempt to copy it using Windows Explorer.

To make a long story short this is a laptop (Latitude D820) running Windows XP Professional SP3 and using Outlook 2003. Outlook 2003 is set up with one POP3 email account and over the weekend my boss dropped the laptop from about two and a half feet up onto a hardwood floor while the laptop was running and while Outlook was open on the computer. From discussion with him the system continued to run but gave him a "really really bad error" (his description) and told him to restart the computer. Since restarting the computer everything is incredibly slow. After getting it this morning and looking at it the Event Viewer is reporting numerous bad blocks on the hard drive and I am replacing it but right now I am trying to back up some data and of course the Outlook data files are part of that. The "outlook.pst" file is 583MB and the "archive.pst" file is 2.2GB with about 3 years of old semi-important/important emails sitting in it.

I managed to copy "Outlook.pst" and "extend.dat" but when I try to copy "archive.pst" it gets to about 95% and then gives an error that it couldn't copy the file due to it failing a CRC check. My guess is that since Outlook was open when the system hit the floor the "archive.pst" file got corrupted in the process.

I have tried copying it with Windows running in Safe Mode with so success. I have tried putting the hard drive in an external enclosure and copying it onto another laptop with no success and right now I am actually running GRC's SpinRite on the drive to see if that will possibly correct that area of the drive enough to let me copy the file; but SpinRite could possibly run for hours or days yet.

Is there another way that I should go about this or does anyone have any recommendations for trying to recover this "archive.pst" file?

We have multiple users that experience this issue.  If they "file"an email to a sub folder from their inbox, when they open the email all images and screenshots that were in the email are gone.

Any idea's why this happens?

Change encryption and signing certifcate

Hi,
in my network I have Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2010/2013.

I need to replace the existing internal enterprise root Certification Authority with a new one.

Some people use the encryption email with certificates issued by current CA.

When will I replace the CA and install the new user certificate issued by the new root CA, what will happen to old encrypted emails ?
I need users to be able to read the old encrypted email.

Thanks
Andrea

Inbox renamed!

Hi everyone

This is a bizarre one..

We have 1 user who's inbox folder has renamed itself with another persons name. This person does not work for the company and never has done. It's one of her contacts! How do we rename her Inbox to say "Inbox" instead of Joe Bloggs (global operations consultant)?

This is a server side issue and not a client side issue as it displays this in OWA too

Using Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2010

Thanks

Outlook 2010 bug in displaying attachments

$

Hello,

Outlook 2010 has changed the way it handles attachments on some computers without the user changing any setting.

As usual, attachments appear in a bar above the email under the SENT and TO fields. However, the behaviour has changed. The first "attachment" is the message, with subsequent attachments displayed to the right.

With the new behaviour, when you click on an attachment, it brings up the ATTACHMENT TOOLS section of the ribbon. You cannot select all the attachments with a click and swipe (as you would with text). It is also frustrating that it stays in the attachment tools section, when the preference is to have the HOME section active.

These computers have attachment preview switched off in the Trust settings.

The previous behaviour was to just display the attachments in the bar. You could click and swipe all the attachments, which was useful if you wished to drag them into a folder, and it did not activate the attachment tools section of the ribbon.

Is there any way to reset Outlook 2010 to return to the previous behaviour? Altering the attachment handling in the Trust Centre Settings has no effect on this issue.

yours sincerely,

Brer

Outlook 2013 with exchange online account disconnected, tryin to connect for hours or indefinitely

I posted this in another forum (office 365) and was told to copy it here as it wasn't an office 365 issue so here is what I posted there:

===================================

Let me see if I can clarify better. This issue has been ongoing as long as I have worked for this client (I started in January but have been told the issue has been going on since before November of last year). The client has multiple construction sites and its headquarters. There is a remote desktop server setup with a public IP address for the users "in the field" for accessing network resources at headquarters. At major construction sites (currently 3) they have high speed internet service installed since the projects typically are 1+ years to complete. So at current times we have the following:

Main office:

Remote Desktop Server with logins for all employees

Main 2012R2 server

50MB/s internet connection via CenturyLink ISP

Site 1:

3 main users of computers. 1 constant user, 2 minimal use users. All 3 have experience the issue 3+ times a week

Comcast 50MB/S ISP

Site 2:

3 Main users of computers. 1 constant, 2 medium use users. All 3 experience the issue 3+ times a week

Comcast 50MB/s ISP

Site 3:

4+ computer users. 1 constant, 2 medium use users and the rest check email couple times a day. They also experience the disconnect issue 3+ times a week

15 MB/S DSL from CenturyLink ISP

There have been instances where (as examples) user 1a called me to tell me it was happening. Users 1b and 1c were not experiencing the issue. I was able to use a remote tool called Teamviewer to connect to her computer. Once connected I tried to open OWA but it would not connect. I tried to ping the site and could not get a response. To verify I remoted into user 1b computer and his outlook was still connected and pinged fine. Both users being at the same site are on the same network. Had user 1a remote desktop into the RDserver at the main office. Remoted into the server at the office her outlook on that machine connected no issues (in my mind rules out account issue?).

I don't believe it is network related due to the other computers working fine and being able to connect to her computer indicated to me that her NIC was fine. I don't think it was her account because it worked fine from the RD Server plus email service to iPads/iPhones continue to work without issue. Once the computer is rebooted everything works fine for a while (could be hours, could be days).

Now to answer the questions for you:

1. it happens to all computers not at the main office but happens at random times to them. It also does not affect every computer at a remote location. It could be 1 or it could be multiple computers at the same time.

2. Affected users iPhones, iPads and outlook 2013 pro session on the RD Server at the main office continue to work no issues.

3. They cannot get to OWA on their machines when in that state, however can log into OWA on another machine plus the answer to #2 above.

4. It is all users at those locations, however I have experienced it myself at my house 1 time since January (I have a different exchange online plan/company than the one I am discussing in this post). The issue is random and it is uncertain if it will correct itself if left sitting long enough (longest time it has been left is about 20 minutes or so) however even 20 minutes is a long time to wait for the service to return so users just reboot.

Please let me know If you have any solutions/ideas.

Thanks,

Brandon Smith

====================================

Hi Branon,

Thanks for your detailed information.

After going your post carefully, I am impressed by your strong technical skills. Regarding “I don't believe it is network related due to the other computers working fine and being able to connect to her computer indicated to me that her NIC was fine. I don't think it was her account because it worked fine from the RD Server plus email service to iPads/iPhones continue to work without issue. Once the computer is rebooted everything works fine for a while (could be hours, could be days)” , I go along with you. Since the affected account could connect to other clients without issue , it indicates Office 365 account is no problem. And other computer were working fine and can connect to her computer, it shows the network environment does not cause the issue. In this situation, the issue should relate to the specific Outlook Client. However this forum mainly focuses on Office 365 online services, to get more accurate responses, it’s suggested that you raise the problem in the Outlook forum. If they got any result and you need further assistance from Office 365 side, please feel free to let us know.

In addition, about “I have had the users try to use OWA when it gets disconnected but they cannot get to that URL either. IE comes up with page not found”, I’d like to collect some information:

1. Does the issue only happen to IE? Have you tried logging in other browsers using the OWA address (like Chrome or Firefox)? Does it work?
2. Does only this user have the issue? Does it happen to other users?
3. Which version of Internet Explorer browser does the user use?
4. Could you provide us with the whole screenshot of the error message? You can post screenshots in our forum by clicking Use rich formatting and selecting the Insert Image icon.

Also, please try the following steps for troubleshooting:

a. Clear the IE caches and cookies when you log into Office 365 again.
b. Use the InPrivate Browsing of Internet Explorer to login.
c. Reset Internet Explorer’s settings, and try again.
d. Try to login in another network environment.

If there is any update, please let us know. I ’ll keep on monitoring this thread.

Best regards,
Jamie

===============================

As of today we still randomly experience this disconnect issue. Just today I had my test user call me to say she was disconnected. She is in location 2 where I have a test laptop also setup with her logged in. When she called I had her check the test laptop and the outlook profile on that machine (same network) was still connected while her computer was not connected. I had her run the online analyzer tool on her machine (the one that would not connect) which ran for almost 2 hours. The tool finished right at the same time that her outlook finally connected back to the server.

If anyone has any ideas/solutions please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Brandon Smith

Unable to Delete Profile from outlook 2013-How is this done?

$

Ok, I put in the wrong information and would like to delete that profile and start over (seeing that editing it did not work)

control -> mail -> choose profile -> remove  You cannot delete this outlook profile, configuration information in the file is being copied to you new default file. you can delete the file after this information is copied.

One there is no new data file just the default when I try to remove that one "the default data file cannot be removed, because it is your default delivery location. After you have selected a different default delivery location you current file can be remove.

Changed the location same erro

created another data file same error.  I am trying to find a way to do this without uninstalling outlook and reinstalling

OS windows 8 64 Office pro 64

It was suggested I post in this forum.

Items disappear from search results in Public Folders in Outlook 2013 when modified

Another issue with Public Folders in Outlook 2013

Do a search in a mail enabled Public folder e.g.: from:forumsup@microsoft.com

Let say you get 2 results, one read and one unread. Click on the unread message which changes its status toread. Boom it disappears from the search result. You now only have one message in the search result.

You have to close (X out) the search and search again and you will see two emails again.

Same happens in Public folder contacts.

Let’s say you do a search in a Contact public folder for Microsoft and you get two results Mary Smith and John Smith. Open Mary Smith, change the phone number and save. Boom now only John Smith remains in the search result. Mary Smith has disappeared. Only way to get the two results back is by cancelling the search and searching again.

Note:

  1. It only happens on Outlook 2013
  2. Running Exchange 2010
  3. It only happens in Public folders. ( just my luck , we live on Public Folders)
  4. You know how you can “Add form fields”  by clicking on the Green Cross that says more, we do not have that for Contact folders, because we could not figure out a way to add Fields like Name, Phone number etc. The only fields that seem to be available are email fields.
We do use To, From, Attachments, Subject and Body fields when we search in Email enabled Public folders.

Now if some MVP is going to say that this by design, I am going to hang myself, so beware.

Currupted "sent items" folder in Outlook 2007 (on Exchange 2007) causing Outlook to crash.

One user here has a problem when clicking on the "sent items" folder. Outlook hangs for 5 secondes and then crashes. If user logs into OWA, she can access the "sent items" folder no problem. I thought it was a messege in the folder that was corrupted so I asked the user to move the messages to a temp folder from OWA. She did that, the folder is now empty but Outlook still crashes. Tried cache mode and uncache.

I tried to delete her sent item folder using MFCMAPI (in the hope the it will recreate a new folder) : right click the folder, selected delete folder, check the option "hard deletion" and I get
Warning:
Code: MAPI_W_PARTIAL_COMPLETION == 0x00040680
Function lpParentFolder->DeleteFolder( lpItemEID->cb, (LPENTRYID) lpItemEID->lpb, lpProgress ? (ULONG_PTR)m_hWnd : NULL, lpProgress, ulFlags)
File .\MsgStoreDlg.cpp
Line 991

One more test I did: I copied the sent items folder to a pst, moved the pst to my computer and when I try to open the folder from the PST, my Outlook would freeze and crash. Isn't interesting?

Am I missing something here? Has someone encounter this problem before? Any other idea on how it could be resolved?

This issue started on Exchange 2003. We are now moving to Exchange 2007. I moved her mailbox to the new server in the hope that any mailbox problem will be filtered and removed. I still have the issue..

env:
Exchange 2007 running on Win2008
PC:
Windows Vista sp1, outlook 2007 (user was getting same issue under Win2k with Outlook 2003)

Outlook 2010 email body blank HTML and rich text format

An user in our environment will get a blank emails.  this only happens when he receives a rich text format email or when a template is used from outlook 2010.  The banner and pictures and text then show up for him as attachments.  We are running windows 7 enterprise, he is on the new exchange 2013 server.  He is the only person experiencing this problem in the whole environment.  This happens to any user that logs onto the pc.

The "" cannot be sent. It may be an attachment of another message (ERROR)

$

Whenever a particular person in my organization sends a task to another particular person and that receiving person clicks to accept, everything seems normal as they get "Edit the response before sending" or "Send the response now". Now the problem arises when you click (whichever of the 2 options) to send the response, the task does not get accepted and it is not being added to the task list of the receiving person. When you try to click "accept" again the following error comes:

The "<insert task>" cannot be sent. It may be an attachment of another message

It only happens to a specific person receiving tasks from another specific person. I tried using a whole new computer and a fresh "Outlook 2010", but I receive the same error whenever tasks are being sent from that person. Tasks that are sent from other people are received and accepted well. The account of the person who sends the tasks seems to be in order (other people can accept his tasks).

If anyone knows a possible cause or solution to this, I would be more than grateful to that person if such information was shared. Thank you.
