Shared Calendar has discrepancies from Creator to Viewer, Used "Clear Offline Items" Will I always have to?

Exchange server

We use a shared calendar for our team, however, today we noticed some discrepancies when it came to items the Creator had deleted. They were still showing up on the viewer end. When I used the Folder->Calendar Properties->Clear Offline Items, it fixed the calendar on that specific viewers end. We have about 25 computers connected in with this Calendar and I had to Folder->Calendar Properties->Clear Offline Items, for all of them, individually which was time consuming. Now is this just a fluke, or will I have to "Clear Offline Items" on a daily or weekly basis to keep it updated? If so, is there a way I can set it to either not create a offline copy, or a macro to automatically clear the offline items each time they log in. For me, clearing the offline items each week (or day) to 25 computers is time consuming, it would be much easier if I could set a Macro once on all computers and have it automatically do the work for me, or simply shut-off the Offline Items.

Outlook 2016 mailbox issue

$

I added a user's mailbox so that it would open the additional mailbox along with my own mailbox, but now I want to take it out, and it is impossible.  If I right-click it, and select Close "<user mailbox>", it tell me this:

So then, I go to the account settings like it says, and the only mail account there is mine.  If I remove it, I will not be doing myself any favors.  So the only other thing that made any sense was to go to the account settings and then "more settings", and then select the advanced tab, and remove the other mailbox from the "Open these additional mailboxes" field.  The only problem is, there is nothing there!  (as in the image below):

So I even tried creating a new profile in Outlook - I removed my existing profile, and then created a new one, and it STILL opens the other mailbox.  Eventually the other mailbox will be removed from Exchange entirely, and then I am not sure what will happen...  But there must be something in the registry, or in one of the c:\users\<username>\appdata\*.* subfolders, that is preventing the other mailbox from being removed even when creating a new profile.  Is this a bug, or is there something I am missing?

Many thanks,

Sam S.

Outlook automatically cancelling appointments randomly

I have a user that has been having an numerous issues with Outlook, one that keeps occurring is random appointments are automatically cancelled.

The user is an exec assistant and is a delegate on behalf of several users. She will create and accept the meeting event on behalf of the user for all sorts of events. Reoccurring, one-time events, etc. It seems at random that an event will be automatically cancelled at random. We've been trying to figure out a pattern as to why this would be happening but nothing is the same either time.

User do use their iPhones to sync their calendars but all sending and accepting of events are done on the exec assistants pc.

Help!

Another odd thing that has randomly happened is that an event invite will be sent right before the meeting is to occur. This has happened to several users and not sure why this is happening or how to fix it.

Outlook 2013 Paints Slowly Over RDP

I just upgraded to Outlook 2013 and it is very slow to paint over RDP.  Every mouse click takes a sec to respond.

I've disabled the hardware acceleration in the options but that didn't seem to help.

It could be my internet latency is too slow but I'm not thinking that is the problem as I can work in Visual Studio 2012 without issue.  I've worked with Outlook 2010 for years now over RDP without issue* ( every so often the internet gets flaky but usually that doesn't last very long )

I recorded a screencast: http://www.screencast.com/t/wIXUM59f

Bug: Angle-brackets are NOT used in email address format in Contact / Mail, etc

$

It's been a LONG time that I have noticed this bug (or if you like, "non-compliance to standard").

According to RFC 5322, section 3.4. Address Specification, email addresses must be enclosed between angle-brackets if display names are used together (not necessarily, but for simplicity, let's say it is).  In other words, suppose we have an email address abc@def.com and a display name of John Smith, the correct format has to be

John Smith <abc@def.com>

but NOT

John Smith (abc@def.com)

However, the image below shows a bogus contact I created:

Look at Display as field: by default, round-brackets are used instead of angle-brackets.  Unless usersmanually change round-brackets to angle-bracket, this is what we get!

You might say, as long as Outlook is able to send emails, that's not a problem.  True.  But if wecopy-n-paste this string elsewhere, it would cause problem. Compliance to standard guarantees interoperability.  That's why it's important to follow standards.

It is worth to notice that if we copy email addresses of AD/Exchange users, email addresses are enclosed between angle-brackets!

Could someone file a bug report to Microsoft so they correct it, please?

PS:
  1. I'm using Outlook 2013
  2. I've already posted a similar post in Partner forum.  But I send one more here to get more audience.

Outlook 2013 and 2010 Signature Graphics Scale Differently From Computer to Computer

$

I have setup Outlook signatures  on multiple computers with Outlook 2013 and 2010 using the same graphic images.  When they send emails, images from some senders with the same graphics are larger than the others when received.  I am having difficulty understanding why the same size image (in pixels) is scaled up for some users and not others.  One theory I have is the images were setup for 96 dpi, and when the signatures were created, their Windows Desktop was set for a lower DPI (larger fonts)?

Any help diagnosing this would be appreciated.

file attached refuse to be deleted in Outlook

Hi,

I seem to have had this problem lately (but intermittently) with Office 365. While I was composing using Outlook 2016, I attached a file from my local drive. Then, half way down, I changed my mind and liked to replace my file attachment. Thus, I was trying to remove the attached file in Outlook. It took a very long time and nothing happened (became unresponsive). I was sure that I did not have many applications up and running at the time.

The only way to fix this is I had to close the composing windows by clicking the X button and was prompted whether I want to save it as a draft. I said "Yes" and it did it with no delay. So I don't understand what's going on here. When I reopen the draft email, I could delete the attached file this time with no problem at all.

It appears to me as if something was holding or locking it down and ignoring any instructions sent to the Outlook.

This happens quite regularly.

My system runs on Windows 10 Pro 64bit with Office 365.

just wondering if anyone would be kind to share some useful knowledge as to how to troubleshoot this if it happens again next time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Uploading Outlook Archives to Office 365 remains at in progress

$

Hi,

We're in the middle of importing several Outlook Archives into the Office 365 Admin Center.  If has processed 216 out of 252 files, but now it hasn't progressed anymore.   These remaining source files are all stuck at 0% progress, even after waiting for several days.

Is there a clean way of restarting these files - perhaps with some help from Microsoft that could jump start the process remotely - or am I forced to cancel and start over ? In that case will I lose the archives that have already been uploaded ?

Thanks for helping me out.

Regards,

Joeri Michiels

UCMAPI.EXE Locks Outlook OST File

$

Hello,
I am investigating an issue in our environment where the Microsoft Lync client is locking the Outlook .ost file and preventing Outlook from updating it.  This results in the user not receiving any e-mail.  The offending process is UCMAPI.EXE, which upon examination using ProcExp shows a number of "mutant" handles manipulating the .ost file.  Upon terminating those handles, the .ost is freed up, the sharing violation ceases and the user is able to receive mail again.
Please advise.
Thank you,
Doug

Outlook 2016 broken move e-mail whilst search active (also no catagories) for exchange online

$

Hi All,

I raised on answers.microsoft, but they suggested I should raise it here "we recommend posting appropriately on the above mentioned forum is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents,"

So the original thread is: answers.microsoft.com Q

To summarize - move takes between 0 and 30 seconds when you have a search in place.  The GUI doesn't update, so appears not to work.  Catagories don't show correctly with search, just a single empty square.  I seem to be on the deferred on Office 365 - can I tweak my settings to get on current to see if that fixes it.  TIA.

Initial Q with additional items:

Background

We have an office 365 subscription - I was actually on office 2010/13 (can't remember which) and was getting the nag yellow bar everytime I was changing mailbox telling me to upgrade to office 2016 - which I did.

I triage hundreds of e-mails a day and have gaps between initiation and conclusion - so to this end i use search extensively.  I have 5K e-mails in a folder (1todo) which require some action or an answer at some point.  The folder and main account is on office 365 (i.e. MS's hosted product) All e-mails get 1 or more project numbers.  My use case was:

- receive an e-mail

- check / add project number

- use search to find all e-mails that are int the same project

- depending on what I can do from there, reply & file as many of the e-mails as I can in the relevant folder

So this worked perfectly in office 2013.  Now in Outlook 2016 the e-mails don't appear to move, you can: drag / right click move / have a quick step to do it.  All used to work.  So this is 2 bugs - one the search doesn't refresh and also it appears the move doesn't always work.

You keep on executing the command and at some point it works BUT it still shows in the folder.  I have read threads elsewhere that say the same and talk about getting different builds of office.  Mine says it is completely up to date. It is 16.0.6001.1073 Office 365 pro plus

I checked: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt592918.aspx

This bug has made my working practices completely inefficient and I need to get it resolved.  Is there a fix / fast work around / way to get a later version that fixes it, does the bug have a name / number?

Less important, but still pretty important to me is that catagories aren't shown in the results grid.  I use these extensively.

Follow up from me:

Move from folder:

  • What happens when you try to move the emails using different option? Are you receiving any error message?

Nothing:

using Quick Steps - (quick step is to move to another folder) - you click, nothing changes

highlight a different row and back to the original (if you do within a couple of secs, nothing, but if you wait for a while then click it, in the preview you get "this item cannot be displayed in the reading pane". The row in the e-mail list stays forever - if you change scope to all folders and back again it is gone.

It took 27 seconds between the click and it to disappear from the preview for another test.  So I suspect either polling / syncing or async command actually being issued.

Right click Move / ctrl + shift + V = same as above.

  • What happens when you try to search the emails? Does it shows any related emails

you mean from a standing start - yes, search finds them all correctly.

  • Did you tried rebuilding the index for Outlook?

Good idea, but I am 100% sure this isn't an index issue.  I have to rebuild the index from time to time as the .edb eat my spare disk.

Additional info:

Ok, some afters, based on working on it:

- it appears that the item does move eventually, between 0s and 30 sec later.  There is no feedback to tell you it has happened.

- the GUI in the grid is not refreshed, you have to do something, there is no refresh button :-(

-It only occurs with Exchange Online mailbox, my normal POP3 is instant.

-one of the confusions about whether the command worked at all, is it appears, you must let the first async move work first, you don't know when it has worked, but if you move another one, it seems to then do nothing.

Workaround:

- search

- do the move

- wait

- click off and on until you get the preview error

- change search / folder

- re-search

As you can see, this has gone from efficiently see e-mail, find all for same project, action all that you can and move, to treacle.

Finally: the catagories are still a problem - i.e. in search, not shown.

can you tell me what I need to change on my install (registry or whatever) to get onto the current release rather than the deferred, then at least I will be testing the latest.

TIA - Jason

Outlook 2016 Preview: Acrobat PDFMaker & Microsoft VBA

The subject addins will not load in the Outlook 2016 Preview;

  1. Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM Addin at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe 11.0\PDFMaker\Mail\Outlook\PDFMakerAddin.dll".
  2. Microsoft VBA for Outlook Addin at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\ADDINS\UTLVBA.DLL".

The Acrobat PDFMaker Office COM addin is a compatibility issue with Outlook 2016 Preview and Adobe Acrobat has been contacted with no current solution.

Does anyone have a solution?

I changed the value of GreatestSuppVer from 0x0000000f(15) to 0x00000010(16), rebooted the computer and tried to add PDFMakerAddin.dll but Outlook 2016 indicated that it did not load due to a runtime error (per https://community.office365.com/members/stankay and http://www.mediafire.com/view/6tej31ui0tljkjw/Adobe_pdf_maker_does_not_work_with_Office_2016.docx).

Are there any other ideas on how to get this add-in to load?

Outlook 2010 - Tracking response for Resource Mailbox changes to 'None' when updating Meeting date/time

$
0
0

Some of our end users has reported that the tracking response for Conference Rooms (Resource mailboxes with "AutoAccept" enabled) is changed to 'None' after updating meeting date/time.

Consider the following scenario:

User creates a meeting request and invites a resource mailbox.
The resource mailbox automatically accept the meeting and send an "Accepted"-message back to the Organizer.
If the Organizer at this point view the Tracking-tab of the meeting, the tracking response is "Accepted", as expected.

The Organizer updates the date/time of the meeting.
The resource mailbox send an "Accepted"-message with the updated time back to the Organizer.
If the Organizer now view the Tracking-tab, the tracking response has changed to 'None'.
If you look in the "Scheduling Assistant", you can still see that the Resource mailbox has allocated time for the meeting though.

We tried the troubleshooting mentioned in MS Support Article: 2215547.
-Invited a Resource Mailbox to a Meeting and instantly closed Outlook after updating the meeting with a new time.
-Located the Accepted-message sent by the Resource Mailbox via MFCMAPI, but couldn't find the PR_PROCESSED property at all.
-After launching the Outlook-client, the PR_PROCESSED is present, but the tracking response is changed to 'None'.

 - We can't re-produce the problem in Outlook Web Access.
 - We are only able to re-produce the problem with "Cached Exchange Mode" enabled.
 - We are able to re-create the problem in safe mode, which should rule out any faulty add-ins.
 - Since the PR_PROCESSED property wasn't present while the Outlook-client was closed, the meeting response shouldn't have been processed by another device.
 - We can re-produce the issue on several different clients and several different Resource Mailboxes.
 - Office 365 environment, Outlook 14.0.6131.500 (32-bit), Windows 7 Enterprise (SP1 - 64bit)

Any suggestions for continued troubleshooting would be much appreciated.
